Semi-active? If you are powering all four speakers separately, but still using the crossover, the term you use is "Bi-Amping".

Nice install... quite like your interior trim. 8)

i like it! that poor car is going to rattle away to nothing!

I think the cleverest part of the whole install is that the fans on the TI amps arrange into a triangle to match the LED's looks awesome

how are the JL components? I haven't seen many reviews from anyone that wasn't either A: already a JL fan boy, or B: never heard anything else. I'm trying to get a feel for how they stack up against similar speakers

The car has had about 20 sheets of Dynamat extreme, and I have literally covered everything I can get to,

Front door cards
Front door outer skin
Rear door cards
Rear Quarters, upper and lower, outer skin
Full trunk kit surrounding the entire install in the boot
Dynamat in the hatch on the boot (the part that lifts if you open the boot)
The roof liner has been removed, and the roof covered with Dynaliner.

Hopefully theres enough sound proofing there to keep the poor car together :)

I have a WIP thread if your interested: http://forum.evotechnik.net/showthread.php?t=19210 - This shows the pre fabrication stages with a standard off the shelf box for the subs, going through to the fiberglassing being done. I never really got pics from later on into the build, but you can see the finished result. :)

Regarding your question on the components,

Sadly, I fall vaguely into the second category. Although having heard Ti Elites (which do sound better, as the XRs are 'sharper' on certain symbal notes etc and can hurt my sences a little) and Rainbows (which sound worse by a fair margin to my ear) also run from similar amps.

I'd go for the JL out of the 3.

Obviously also had the mixed pleasure of hearing some of the cheaper brands, the KAPPAS, Alpines, JBL, West coast customs, Mutant and similar cheap brands... Even the cheapest JL series Components will slaughter any of those.

The price for JL in the UK is very very formiddable. I paid £350 for my XR650, which equates to about 670-700 dollars US. This is why I have XRs and not ZRs, which are £750!!! Retail here. BBG slaughtering us in that regard.

ouch...to be fair though, JL has very strict MSRP's which they make BBG adhere to...also regarding BBG....Gordon dutch is my uncle. 8)

Gordon Dutch is really your uncle?

If true then its a very very small world my friend.

Gordon Dutch and my mother were best friends all through first, middle and highschool. Literally known eachother their whole lives..

When you next speak to him tell him you've been speaking with Sandra Hayward's Son, Dave.

He'll know who you mean :)

( I've been trying to get her to have a word with him for aaaaAAGES to try and get in with BBG on some level or another from the top, but she won't do it. :( )

wow...that is really funny. to be official he is my cousin now that I'm breaking down the family tree . Reg (his financial director) is my granddad Brian Dutch's brother. who moved my mom from hemel hempstead when she was about 10.
we exchange emails pretty regularly.

he always busts my chops about supporting PG still...he LOVES JL.

i will shoot him an email right now

You'd get more pussy if you spent that money taking chix out on the town......

Super sweet install. I like how the subs are angled.
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

Fuzzy -

HAH! Nah she gets just as much spent on her as the car to be honest! :) And shes not complaining none. Long term gf, well I say long term - coming up on 3 years and I am 21 so it feels very long term!!! I'm not out to impress anyone else.

marko -

Frankly although the midbass location could be better, I thought the tweets were well located.
I have just kept things stock on the speaker locations . The midbass still sits behind the factory plastic grille. I'd preferr if it fired towards me rather than the headlights, but theres only so far I was prepared to go :)

Including the Alarm and everything else all told I've put like £6,000 into everything I have inside my car already and the exterior mods. Almost twice the car's value just on ICE and theres a point at which someone really really has to stop. :)

In the future, I might get the new JL Audio Evolution ZR800-CW along with a ZR 2 way component setup, to make a bespoke 3-way. This way I could cut a custom midbass location in a more ideal position, and have these babies under the seats firing up my ass :D

But that would be a new install for a new car :)

Really appreciate the positive feedback guys!

Looks great. That 800.1 is a big mutha!

I like the Alcantara touches on the interior, this is something I have discussed doing with mine with Paul @ Source Sounds (they're doing my install, I don't have skill or time - and now money, lol!)

Very nice. I like the look of the "floating" amps. Is this the one posted on the old PG forum?

Definitely not, has someone done a similar install in the past? I'd like to see it if so.

We completed this about 3 months ago so its definitely not been posted before.

I've seen a Ti install with floating amps before. Sorry for the confusion, but yours probably looks better anyways. :D
