MIDBASS...goddamn peppy too...

Post by bogart »

Just got thses done in and somewhat tuned. First part of my fiberglass work...first the interior...then I'll pull the trunk back out and frame it in a weekend for the start of racks and such.

The woofers are RE Audio sx 8s...d4's running two ohms. They are running off the sub channels of a 900.7 through a crossfire 3 way and are x's over at 50 and 360...works well. I can't isolate the ti 15's at all. It sounds so so so much better. The 8's are vibrating my front floor boards and are each in .35 net...punchy. the 15's are running 10 to 50hz now and that is that...

enjoy the pics folks

yes,,,,they are big. The driver has a 4 and 3/4 mounting depth and a hefty motor. Could have gone shallow mount but I prefer the sound of a traditional driver on a good crossover over the actual midbass drivers out there

Thanks

how does it sound with the 8 not firing the same way? I have just seen most with the same angle. Im sure you can make it 100% with a rta

If they are at the same angle the drivers will cancel one another out. While being a directional driver, it is still a lower frequency and pans out thru the front well. I would like the driver side at a little steeper angle but size wise it is where I could pull it off. am not sure what it'll do on an rta....I just started this because xenon's arn't really made to see below 70 and the sub really stood out in the back...so this was the cure for that and it did indeed pull the stage forward....can't hear the 15s at all unless I just intentionally rail the db on the 15s.

It sounds pretty good to me for half ass tuning and there are a mess of gains to deal with...eventually I will find the balance and rta it...for now it is just fun

cool sorry I ment that they both angle up or side ways not so they cancel but so they sound the same I would think in this set up you would get a little more mid bass sound from the right but I sure you fell more from the left
very nice good work

Nice work bogart! I used to have two 6.5´s in the same spot in my last car. And if it comes to middbass there is really nothing better than just a nice little sub in the doors or the legroom!

looks good other then the size but what can ya do? Sometimes form follows function....

They bring a whole new definition to kick panels. You will want some kind of grill over them would be my biggest concern.

I've got grills for em...have to paint em and figure out how to mount it as there isn't much room around the ring...I may try to cut some alluminum mesh with an mdf slip on cover that fits the outer ring of the pod. I want to re do the upolstery on them...that is felt beleive it or not and it works well...so I glued it down and stretched it....cut the back and threw a couple light coats of paint over it....stiff and shows any and all dirt....but it works and was cheap.

center channel pod and door pods are next....then the rear deck...then the trunk...I am thinking the trunk will be 95% mdf and carpet....but it is a start...

Nice, I'm extremely jealous! I am in need of some 8's or 9's up front but don't have the room because of my clutch. Great job!
