door pods...the start of the project

Post by bogart »

Made and broke the mold for one side...do the other tomorrow. Took about 2 hours to get three solid coats down and dry enough to pop it off the door. Turned out ok considering I didn't even pull the panel to do it. Just built it up till it held the upper portion where gravity works against it while drying.

More pics of the other side tomorrow....

I would be suprised if they had completely cured in that time. I like to leave my molds in overnight to ensure they have completely cured and that they are not going to warp anymore and I live in the desert where everything dries fast. They only have to flex a little to not fit worth a crap again....

glass is easy...it was still hot when I pulled it....I couldn't leave it in the car more then I did. It is a daily runner.

The cast is huge...realistically, I am using about 1/3 of that for the backing. If it flex's a wee bit it is ok...I generally use chopped bondo to seat it again once it is cut and then start the face.
