About 3 weeks ago I got my wife another car, one she actually wanted, but a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM SE. We only paid $1400 for it and 90k of its 156k miles are all highway. It has the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine and runs as smooth as it did day 1. I put about $300 into it to do preventative maintenance to it. For $1400 I knew it wasn't going to be in mint condition and it did have a few things I needed to fix which are fixed now. The body has a few rough spots, but I'll get to it when time, money and temp allow.
Here's the HU, her old Eclipse 8443. The rear speakers are blown so I'll get to them later as it doesn't bother her (and of course me). I'll be putting in the ZX450v2 to run the front 2 chs and a 10"/12" sub. It'll be summer before I get to it though.

I went to the local stereo shop where I hang out and asked if they had any cheap, get-me-by 6 x 9's as they occasionally get some some in on trade and what not, but Loddie, the installer, says "Here, you can HAVE these". To my surprise he hands me a set of Kicker Impulse 6 x 9's. I metered them and they both tested out at 3.9 ohms, so they're good to go. I'm going to put them in tomorrow if it's still supposed to be 50 outside.
Lucky me, though they do give me a lot of things I need for free.

you would be amazed what is in the bottom of a installers toolbox. I hope that you at least left $5-10 bucks for lunch or something..... If not go back and do it tomorrow as you want to keep that door open and happy for the next time you need something.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
I left them with 2 plates of cookies. That's what brought me over there anyway. I do work (sort of, I help out) for free so I get my perks in other ways. I've helped them in multiple installs, weather proofing the install bay, sealing the parking lot, running their competitions...... The list goes on.
I don't complain, they've scratched my back in a lot of ways and I don't mind helping them out.

These cars use a 4 x 6 mid in the doors w/the tweet up top the door where the mirrors are and they use a simple 1st order xover on the tweet and nothing on the mid. I'm going to get a set of 5 1/4" mids to put in the 4 x 6's place. Should be just enough room and these are what I'm going with.
With no LP xover on the mid it should handle the higher freqs quite well rolling off in the 6.5k Hz range. I think this should bring the midbass/bass up front more.
I'm going to go over the LANZAR Opti150 again to make sure it's up to speck and instead of building a box for a 12", I'm just going to go ahead and use either the XS104 or the XMAX 10" sub. I was going to use the PG ZX450v2 I have to power everything, but I think it'll be more work then what it's worth for what my wife would be happy with that I could enjoy too.
