I have decided to upgrade my radar detector really only because I got a good deal from a friend on a escort 9500ci. I have always been happy with the whistler I had but after seeing the 9500's price was just too nice to pass up. For those of you not familiar with it this has been called the #1 detector/shifter out by the experts and yes it beat the V1 too. It has front/rear laser shifters to keep me off the lidar, a GPS feature with a database of photo radar areas and popular speed traps that I can also add to when I drive by and see one. Finally the coolest feature is that the GPS will recognize when you are moving less the 15 mph and disable all the alerts so that it isn't blowing up as you pull into the grocery store or strip mall. For those of you that are familiar with it I got it for much less then the $1200 retail price so why not?

Ok now this is where I need your help, I can't decide, My original idea was to just mount the new display in the clock pod like the old one. It is easy enough to do and again the location is great.



after some thought though I decided to make the clock pod look similar to the explorer overhead I installed to house the Air-ride display. All I mean by that is that the front of the pod would be gloss black and the gloss black and would just flow into the plexi of the display to give a fairly seemless look like below. Both of the overhead and the clock pod will have a green stripe down them as to all the other gloss pieces in the middle.



Now up to that point I was perfectly happy with everything I had done everything I did and found until I found this. Skip forward to the 50 second mark


So now I ask would you put it in the mirror or in the pod?

In my opinion, I would put it in the mirror. If you are planning to change to another one in a few years, the pod might be a better place for the display. That is a sweet set up either way.

got it in yesterday while still considering top/bottom placement as well as with a clock pod to replace the one one I am selling with the whistler. After seeing how easy it will be to smooth into the clock pod it is just too easy to ignore as it fits perfectly. In this shot I have the display flipped backwards to see if I would need to trim any of the 9500ci's display and it actually slides in easily and then has probably less then 1mm of space top/bottom. All I need to do is cut out the large blue rectanglular-shaped in the 9500's display into the clock pod, add some CA glue to hold it in place nice and flush, fill the seems, sand them down and paint it black/clear.



Hopefully the car will be back from getting the air-ride finished up under the car by tomorrow.

also forgot to mention that the clock display is green and I have put leds in my dash to the lighting is blue. Obviuosly the 9500 display is blue.
