escort passport 9500ci

Post by ttocs »

I came across a good deal on a used 9500ci, and was able to sell my old one for what I paid for it so I upgraded to the 9500. If you are not familiar with this model, this is the latest/greatest radar detector made and has been getting great reviews since it came out yes even rated better then the valentine one and k40. The difference is that this integrates a GPS system as well as laser shifters. The GPS unit make a huge difference as it has a database of photo radar locations, I can update new ones with a push of the botton on the controller and from then on 1/4 mile away it will start to warn me. If I go by best buy that always sets off my detector, it will recognize the freq it puts out as well as its location and the 3rd time I go buy it, it will block that signal. Now fi a cop is in the parking lot shooting, it will recognize the new signal and alert me as normal. It also recognizes when I am driving less then 25 mph so it will ignor all signals below that speed.

I tucked the display into the stock clock pod. Came out looking nice as it is housed beind a tinted piece of plexi glass so the display just shines out from behind a black glass

For the controller I decided to mount it in the coin holder. Its a switch blank for what would have been the convertable switch which looks alot like the fog light switch next to it. I am happy with how it came out as it is almost flush mounted. It also

Here the controller is mounted. It ended up fitting so tightly that I didn't even need adhesive or double stick tape and its super solid

the main moduel where all the cables connect was made so that it ca be mounted up under the dash with wire ties. There is nothing wrong with that but I just wanted something cleaner and more solid that could be easily reached if I need to service it. So I made this bracket that the module will slide onto after the bracket is mounted. The holes in teh bottom are for wire ties so that I can tie them all neat and clean.

at this point I am pretty much ready plug it all in and test it out. I have been working on it at night mainly because I wasn't feeling well during the day and there is less to deal with - no phones, no neighbors, nice and quiet. Only bad part is that running black cables on a black interior and and poor lighting makes it a little hard. I didn't get any pics of the laser shifters front or rear of the radar reciever as it been too dark. The laser shifters up front(2_ were super easy to mount the way they were designed. The rear laser though is also easily mounted as it comes with brackets to go over your license plate which is where they are told to aim.

Very nice Job. I do a lot of those as well as the K40's The only thing I dont like on the Escort is the rj jack terminations. Most shops you end up with a huge ball of wire.... We have the colored heatshrink and the right rj plugs and crimper and just cut the down leaving 18" of slack for serviceability. I really like the look of yours behing the clock pod.

you can tell it was made to go into a excursion and have asome extra so needless to say in the mustang I have almosg 2x as much. I too hate extra wires and especially up in the dash where the cpu is monted. I ran the wires loosely through teh car so that I can tie off all the extra wire(if I don't cut it like you do) back in areas not under tue dash? Could tie up the rear shifter unde the quarter panel or even better yet in the trunk lid so I ever need any extra cable to remove teh license plate its there.

What kind of crimpers do you use for those conectors. I have a nice mallory(I think it is) ratcheting crimper that I can get different jaws in depending on the wire and connector being crimped if an old trusty klein style blue handle crimpers do not work.

I have a pair of Ideal Branded crimpers they to all 4 6 and 8 pin rj plugs and can be had for If i remember right about$25 at home depot. I do alot of Mercedes and Porsche and most of the time when I am pulling and reinstalling either its doing into a newer version of the same car or the customer pulls it as the dealer will give them $0 to leave it in and then they tell me to put newest latest and greatest in the next car.
