Project "Krank Amp'n Wagen"

Ok, I could not let my dream-project be "secret" anymore, so here is a little taste of it.

First of all, I must integrate you into my world.

In my late teens (1992), I rode my red'n shiny BMW with alot of different carstereo installed. My dream was the Phoenix gold MS2125, but that one costed like 1400$ in Norwegian currency at that time. After alot of savings and hours of work - I did buy my first new MS2125. WHAT AN AMP !!! I was in heaven...

After alot of Bass during the years, I sold the MS2125 (I do not know why) to Phoenixx at this forum in 1996 I guess, since all my gear was out of the car - I had another Beemer that I was going to use... As that car was stolen before I have put the stereo in, I stuffed my gear away for later use...

I did see and pick up some things during the years following, and I must say that very much carstereo did not impress me that much. The only thing I did notice, is that as the years vent by, the new "generation" young chaps did brag about their new shit.. And Phoenix Gold was old shit.

Suddenly my dream was to build a car with a real "old-school" stereo, and as the years went by - the dream grew roots. The car could not be any car, it must be from that time, and most likely - ugly as hell...

But nothing happened with this dream, too many other projects etc..

Suddenly, last year, I got a phone from Phoenixx. "Do you want to buy your amp back??".... And that made my heart pound again. "Ebay.com" did suddely open a world of hidden treasures, and I did start shopping "PG-candy"

So, September 2007:

I did find the perfect, ugly car - with alot of space.

An Ambulance... (Which I prefer to call "AMPulance", hehe..)

It is a ambulance well known in Norway, it is a 1992 Volvo 960 Rescueline V6 Automatic.

Ugly as hell...

And with that car, the projectname came by itself.

Das Krank Amp'n Wagen

For those of you that is not familiar with german language, "Krankenwagen" (Krank=sick, wagen=car) is german for ambulance. And (truly) mutaded with "Frank Amp'n Stein", the Theme name speaks for itself.

To list some pics of the car as I got it home: Please bear in mind that theese pics are first shots....

Ugly?? Yeah, but alot of good space, hehe..

In this car, the Powerhouse will list as follows:

4 x MS275
3 x MS2125
1 x MPS2500
1 x Frank Amp'n Stein
2 x Son Of Frank Amp'n Stein
1 x MS1000ta Black Edition

There will also be some Bass Cubes, some AX406a's, line drivers etc.

Woofer set-up:

2 x 18" Cerwin Vega Stroker Dual Coil (Original Old School), both powered by MS1000ta
12 x 12" Celestion AD12, powered by 6 x bridged MS2125s

Mids are today only counting 2 x 8" Lanzar Pro series. Those sems to be impossible to find, so I guess I must go for some newer killer-8"s instead.. damn.... Most likely I will have like 8 mids (in 8"), powered by 4 x MS275.

Front counts today Orion 3-way, damn nice speakers - but my guess is that I will have to add some more 6" to the doors, and maybe even some extra tweeters?

As I said, plans are in progress, so I am not quite sure what I end up with.

But now it is time to go to bed, I am off for work in 5 hours... So I can and will update this later...

thanks for reading this way-to-long story of mine...

I hope to scare the shit out of the ears of the rude youngsters (that think that their 6000w amps with 40A fuse is the best), in this ugly piece of oldschool shit....

I am sooo looking forward to play my good old 90s music on my stereo again...

So for sure your gonna install both of the SOFAS at my shop together in this ride ????

I ask, because of some cosmetic issue's I am aware of, that I will need to correct for in my mind. As I see it you might be mounting both these SOFAS in sight of each other so you will want them be mirror images of each other. Is this a fair and correct assumption on my part ???

Please let me know, as it will dictate a lot this weekend. If I am incorrect also let me know. I will be at the shop tomorrow all day and into the evening. When I get both of your amps together on the bench I will send you pics, and we will go from there about cosmetic matching for your install.....C

@ Cecil:

The 2 SOFASs will be mounted standing upwards, with the FAS in the middle - so they will not be mirrored at first sight. (it is like the father standing in the middle of his 2 sons, hehe... )

The main thing is that they function as they should.

Prepare a spare-room in your house; for all forum members will suddenly change their holiday-destination to norway when you're done my friend!
As will I...
Like I said earlier; the MAKING of a truly awesome install is [ for me] the BEST part!
So enjoy, and GOOD LUCK.
Ohhh, and another thing; don't think you can get away building this thing, without updates WITH PICS every month!!!!
I love it already 8)

Ehh..

I guess it might get hard to finish my other projects, since the handymen are making some more room (for the forth kid in the house, arriving in a few days now). But the Ampulance is parked in the garage, so maybe I'll get something done when I'll be back from work wednesday? I will now travel for work untill the 5th of december, so we will see what I can get done... Like I said, there is a new baby coming in just a few days now, so....

AAAHHHH....good.
I see you're expecting us.
Did I ever tell you I'm a experienced baby-sit?
I can change a diaper faster, than you can say;"when this project is finished, it will blow all competition to pieces, because it's real old-skool PG you newbies! "..
And remember; don't get lazy on this project, or your new baby will drive your car by the time you're done, and you'll have to drive to your work every day in this monster, hehe...
Good luck; let us know when he/ she is born!

OK... Time for update.

My kiddy has arrived, she has celebrated X-mas and she's been through all the things babys go through...

The work on my house is aaaaalmost ready, so when I come home from my next working period (I travel Monday) - It'll be ready I hope.

THEN my garage will be accessable for the Ampulance..

I have not done that much with the car, mostly shopping some good old stuff...

Misc. accessories and some processors from PG, 3 x Kinetic HC2400 batteries and some other minor things.

My dream and plan all the time, was that OneMoreAmp would do all the internal amp-work. But my good man and friend Cecil has been busy, and I fully respect that. He has 2 of my SOFAS's, and I am looking forward to see those 2 arrive at my house - with the "Cecils touch".

As I do not want to push C with more than the 2 SOFASs, I have spoken with another friendly member in here, Eric D. He will now take 2 of my MS2125s - refurbish and hopefully build my own "oneandonly" TOFAS-Edition (MS500) for me. I hope to have 2 such examples build for my install, but one at a time - I really appreciate Eric building the first one for me.

I have just taken some photos, with the amps ready to be shipped today hopefully...

Image

The REV-B has now left it's grey sink, and will hopefully return in a laaaarge sink - together with a "brother"....

Image

As you can see, I miss the 2 golden power bars...

Anyone got any power and speaker terminals for the TA MS1000/MS2250 for sale? I could need a pair of each for this amp.

Here are my sink for the first TOFAS... (BTW..recognise the table clothing??)

That is gonna be a beauty !!! :D :D

WOW, Phonixx !!!

Have you been keeping this secret for me??? Hehe..

I think that was a nice one, indeed.

I will be back 10th of March, so maybe we can have a evening together again?

I have to start up with the AMPulance on my next free-period, so that I can be done till this dB-season...

Yeah, finally as I move into the new part of the house, I had to take my Phoenix-stuff that I had in my closet over to my new closet - since my daughter did not want car-stereo stuff with her clothes (even if I did  )

I did not think that it was that much, since Eric got 2 of my MS2125s and Cecil got 2 of my SOFAS's and some small stuff... And yeah, the stuff on top of the closet will still stay there (my 6-year old will not reach them..)... That means the MS1000, some new Basscubes, X-overs, EQs, a few amps, and some other small things...

Image

Image

So I decided to carry the stuff into the new TV-room, before I stuffed it into my new closet in the new master bedroom....

Damn, it looks like alot - regarding everything was into my daily-use closet

So now it is time for having my house finished, so that I can get on mounting this stuff into the Ampulance...

I just wanted to share theese photos with you guys....
