The MQ-9 Reaper (originally the RQ-9 Predator B) is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems for use by the United States Air Force, the United States Navy, and the British Royal Air Force. The MQ-9 is the Air Force's first purpose-designed hunter-killer UAV designed for long-endurance, high-altitude surveillance.[1]

The MQ-9 is a larger and more capable aircraft than the earlier MQ-1 Predator. It can use MQ-1's ground systems. The MQ-9 has a 950-shaft-horsepower turboprop engine, far more powerful than the Predator's 119 hp (89 kW) piston engine. The increase in power allows the Reaper to carry 15 times more ordnance and cruise at three times the speed of the MQ-1.[1]

The U.S. Navy calls its MQ-9s "Mariners".

Ah I see.. IIRC the 1 couldnt carry any payloads..

I do love technology, but only when used in the correct manner (defense..)

I still have a hard for the SR71 though, would love to see one of those up close and personal. Jeremy Clarkson wrote about them once saying how they have soul.. You can literally hear them groaning and creeking...

Amazing.

The bomb with the sticker is a GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bomb I am pretty sure. Smart bomb. Very loud when you're under it.

That's exactly what it is, a 500lb general purpose bomb with laser finder CCG and MXU tail fin assembly with m905 tail fuze set at 6 seconds non-delay.

Awesome post, love the intro lol. You hear this coming when its on top of you of course then its too late.

The Brits aren't allowed for weapons deployment yet but very soon they'll be getting theirs. Right now they're just eyes up top for ground forces.

Ah-ha, now I know what your avatar is.

You must be that friend that OSF was talking about. Neat plane... do you do maintenance on it or something?

Yes its me, he helped me out and he sent me the stickers to post. I load the weapons and do the ops check on it. Just think of it as a regular plane but with pilot in mobile gcs (guidance control system) to fly it along with a sensor operator. The company can't make enough of these with a number countries wanted to buy.

A friend of mine in the Air Force was in a mission in Iraq where they had to bomb a few places, and while making sure the laser stayed on target, he said that several times he could see people looking up right before impact... But like somebody said...It was too late for them. I don't know if it was the same type of bomb, but he told me the name of it and I forgot...

This is so cool; I love fighter Aircraft. My favorite childhood movie was Top Gun. I used to have every line in that movie memorized "Negative Ghost rider, the pattern is full.", and "Slider... you stink" were my favorites.

Unfortunately my piss poor eyesight ended up ruining my dreams of becoming an aviator. So instead I'm stuck here drooling over your pictures!

Judging from your avatar it looks like you are stationed in Afghanistan? Look out for our Canadian troops (all two or three of them) ;)
