any computer pro's in here? i'm trying to get my UCS PRO to work with my laptop but my serial port is not having any of it, the UCS is fine and connects to my desktop pc straight away so i know it's not the processor or cable. tried matching com ports up but still no luck, the laptop is an old dell d600 i bought specifically because it has a serial port for diagnostics
any help/suggestions would be great!
Mark.

I would turn off the FIFO buffers. I believe you do that by opening the device manager, find the serial port and go to its advanced options then look for something you can uncheck. I believe the FIFO buffers are enabled by default, so they will probably be on.
I have had issues like this many times while interfacing RS232 to industrial controls, and CNC machines.
