Ive been wanting to put together something for the house, and I think I am ready to get started on it. Here is what Im looking at for the moment..

I work at circuit city, So I get great deals on the polk accomidations. My budget, not sure yet. I wont buy everything at once, I will probably end up buying them im pieces. Im open to other suggestions, but the price will be hard to beat from what I can get all polk equipment for.

For a receiver, I'd personally go with either the Onkyo 605 or HK AVR-247

To save a little money, buy them refurb. A lot of companies sell refurbs for less with the same warranty. Same thing goes for SVS subwoofers above. I found my PB-10NSD for $325 before shipping with full warranty. Thats $100 off the price and the only thing I didn't get to choose was the color. (its hidden though, so no biggie)

Well to be honest, I don't have anything against anything in your list there, but I don't know what your budget is. That subs pretty weak though. And I'd rethink the receiver choice to the 605. Not sure on the center channel, but those fronts and surrounds should sound sweet.

Yea I may do the 605. I really want to do the 805, but its a bit pricey. As for the polk sub, it sounded pretty good when i listened to it today. I really want a velodyne sub, but their arent any accomidations on them at the moment..

Use the money from your 805, and add it to your sub budget. You won't regret a SVS sub for the money. Cheaper to build your own though, tis true.
Finding Nemo takes on a whole new sound with a good sub.

That I could do, but dont have enough time on my hands right now. (kinda lazy) with school and all going on aswell.

First things first, I am going to work on this front stage and amp.

I can get the 805 for a great price, but its still expensive.. That thing is a beast though. 60 pound reciever

Have you heard the polk PSW125BK sub that i posted? I will have to listen to it more tomorrow, but its a beast.Bigest sub sizw wise we had in stock Sounded very good, and loud from my short time auditioning it at work. Only rated at 150 watts, but it got loud, just from its shear size. Dont underestimate it...

Btw with the deals i get on polk, its actually more expensive to build my own sub.

I can get the polk psw125bk sub for less than $180 Great deal.

It might be a good deal under $180, but as far as subs go, it won't drop very low. Might get loud in the upper ranges, but just won't hit the bottom octaves. They list the frequency range from 32hz-225hz and odds are thats either -3db or -6db at 32hz where as my pb10-nsd is -3db at 20hz and thats not even in room. Lots of movie effects from 15hz all the way to 32hz. Thats where the price difference comes in.

Have you heard it? Im assuming not.You should know by now that frequency listings are always pointless. From what I heard, it droped plenty low on movies. Paper specs mean absolutely nothing. Real world listening is all that matters.

Paper specs mean a lot when published by the manufacturer. Why post specs that would hurt the sale of your sub? If my subs response was the same as SVS, I sure wouldn't list it rolling off at 32hz. That would be HORRIBLE marketing. And fyi, I've heard the Polk PSW404, and while it got loud, it still rolled off too high for my tastes and it is listed at 25 for frequency range and also has a higher MSRP. I'm not saying they're bad woofers, I'm saying if you can afford better and have a good size space to fill, to upgrade to something beefier. SVS use to have a trial period for people that wanted to hear their subs but after hearing how clean and smooth this sounds, I'm glad I kept it.

My SVS might not sound all that loud, but when an explosion goes off on screen, I can feel the pressure move my pants leg (My sub is set to the same level as my mains using a db meter). If you were able to set that sub, with those mains, set the levels even on a tone to say 80db, I can almost guarantee you you wouldn't feel the same unless your room is smaller (which unless its a bedroom I doubt it).

If you like how they sound, by all means, go for it. If I got a discount on a manufacturers product I'd certainly look at the price difference myself. I didn't need to spend $300+ on a 10" woofer, but I'm glad I did. Now I want to go BIGGER

Wife would kill me though, the 10" I have now weighs in at 70lbs or so.

Im going to second the the opinion of confused on the onix stuff. The X series are nice, but you may want to dish out the extra and get some rocket 450's with a sig 200 center. Currently, they have a rediculous special on them. Although they are more than the Polks, the resale alone would make up the difference. Im guessing you could use the rockets for 2 yeahs, sell them and not lose any money.

Confused, tell your wife you are going to get a Seaton Submerssive sub. By comparison a UFW-12 would be nothing.

I prefer the H/K look myself. But the elites are nice too.
