I prefer Yamaha.
Take a look at the RX-V661. I'm not sure what the Audyssey calibration is exactly, but the 661 does have have auto calibration.

I would take a look at some onkyos.. Dealing with both companies, I like onkyos offerings much better than denon. Get the 805 onk.. It is a nice piece of equipment..

Unfortunately I've been out of the home a/v game for a few years. I worked for a dealer that carried Denon and I always liked them, but preferred Integra at the time.
This is the updated version of the Integra that I run in my theater with the updated bells and whistles like HDMI switching, Audyssey 2EQ, etc...
http://www.integrahometheater.com/model ... ceiver&p=i
I've also heard very good things about this receiver from the standard Onkyo line...

When trying to make your decision I recommend you try to research and focus on the surround processing, video up-conversion, up-scaling, etc. more than some of the standard audio specs since you're considering adding nicer amps for your stereo listening.

I agree with the Onkyo suggestion. I've had two, and I love both of them.
Not to mention the learning remote is pretty badass.

I've got the 1908 or the model that this one replaced. Anyway, i've had mine for a few years and couldn't be happier. The Denons and Onkyo are just built like tanks I think

Well, you won't need a video input for your TV!

Do you already have an xbox 360? The Elites have always had an hdmi output and starting late in the summer the premium systems also started coming with them.
Does it come with the ipod dock, or is that sold separately?

I suggest Yamaha first, Denon second, and Onkyo Integra third.

Havent messed with yamaha, so I cant comment on them, but the comparable denons that we sale do not match up with the onkyo's in any shape for or fashion

To each his own though.
ps dubs I hate you

Hey MAS, FYI Onkyo has 3 lines-
Suck- Onkyo
good- Onkyo Integra
Overpriced - Interga
Yamaha has real power and is uncolored, in fact you'll see more Yamaha in the music/video industry than any other brand of receiver.
the Onkyo brand name has an elevated low end response on it's output similar to RF amps.
Denon is very clean power however is lacking the headroom that the Yamaha's have at the same price points.
Integra / Onkyo Integra are both great labels but for the money you can have better power with less bells and whistles.
however if you want bells and whistles with good clean power I might suggest looking into the Kenwood Sovereign line.

Onkyo does have 3 lines. Onkyo is their base line sold in chain stores. Integra is their step-up line sold mostly in specialty stores. They include features geared towards custom installation and integration. They are competitively priced with the other mainstream brands like Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Sony, Pioneer, etc. Then they have a line called Integra Research. This is their flasgship pre/pro and amplifier and I think there is a universal DVD player in there. Just 3 models. They are expensive and dont offer much more features, but maybe better sonics.
We sell Integra, Denon, Marantz, and Pioneer Elite. I would buy the Integra over the others right now. Denon is probably a better sounding receiver. And once you get above the 3808, they sound much better than the lower models. But the Integra DTR7.8 is a mean machine. I plan on using external amplifiers when I do my HT, so the power isnt an issue. I might even spring for their DTC9.8 pre/pro. Thats a hell of a box there.
I am not pleased with the Pioneer Elite receivers. They make one hell of a plasma display though. Marantz tends to be a little slower to adopt technology than the others, but they also tend to focus on sound quality before bells and whistles. Great products though.
Denon is always on the forefront of new technology. They have some really cool features even though they might only be noticed by installers rather than end users. Feature-wise, I would place Denon and Integra in the same boat. But for the money, you can get more function from the Integra line, maybe at the cost of that last bit of sonic performance. But come on...its a receiver...youre watching football and playing games through it. Its not a piece of a critical listening system....its a compromise.
Just make sure to get a receiver with pre-outs. Then you can use any amp you want to get the power and sound you want, yet retain all the features and switching you need.
