Mac to TV

Is it possible to some how get a high quality video signal from my MAC Laptop to a TV? Aka pretty much use it as a HTPC?
I think all the new ones have a mini-DVI connector on them. You have to get the Apple cable with the proper connectors on each end, and of course your TV must have DVI or HDMI inputs.
Your other option is to use the AppleTV box.....overkill, but it has more output options.
