What is different about in-wall speaker wire that increases the cost ? I'm going to wire up the gym and will be using 2 sets of bookshelf speakers, 6.5 inch mids. Realistically do you see any reason I should run anythign larger than 16 gauge ? I'll be using an older Yamaha stereo amp using both the A/B sets of speakers.

16 gauge is fine up to 300 feet or so....more than that, and I would be more comfortable with 14, but 16 would still work. :)

As far as price, not sure what exactly you are looking at. You should be able to find CL rated 16 gauge wire for well under $.60/ft. Good luck. :)

That I do not know. I like stuff with a thicker jacket myself. Makes it easier to run and doesnt knot up on you. Also looks better and easier to make it do what you want. :)
