Politicians Want to Use Tax Dollars-Crush Newer-Model Trucks
Here we go folks. As far as I am concerned- the new political climate is ANTI-CAR. That means- the new politics are ANTI-CAR AUDIO by definition.
We do not need to let the political hacks define our daily lives by their insanity. You all spend plenty of time here, so I know you have time for this: oppose this legislation. You can make a difference. Here is a link from SEMA-
http://www.sema.org/Main/ArticleDetail. ... ntID=61134
Here are a few of SEMA's points about the program-
Given the minimal $1,500–$4,500 voucher value, the program will lure rarely driven second and third vehicles that have minimal impact on overall fuel economy and air pollution. This is not a wise investment of tax dollars.
The program will reduce the number of vehicles available for low-income individuals and drive up the cost of the remaining vehicles and repair parts. This is a basic supply-and-demand reality.
The program will remove the opportunity to market specialty products that are designed exclusively for the targeted pickups and SUVs, including equipment that increases engine performance and fuel mileage. Congress will be enacting a program to eliminate jobs and reduce business revenues in the automotive aftermarket.
The idea that the trucks and SUVs must be scrapped in order to save energy is irrational. The program’s “carbon footprint” does not factor in the amount of energy and natural resources expended in manufacturing the existing car, spent scrapping it and manufacturing a replacement car.
Don't let them come for the trucks- what's next? Mustangs? Any kind of aftermarket gear for performance (energy wasting)... etc. This mentality has no bottom to the depths of their depraved power schemes to CHANGE THE WAY WE LIVE.
If you don't care- if you think it's okay for Government to regulate out of existance an entire industry, based on junk science and popular emotions and a lying press, please ignore this post.

Haha what the fuck? I'm a huge pseudosocialist euro-douche and even I think this is a stupid idea. As a Canadian I have no say in your politics, but I will post this on some other forums to spread the word to other Americans.
I think it should be your choice to drive a gas guzzler, you just lose your right to bitch when it costs a lot to tank up.
These cars will stop existing as soon as the gas prices rise too high to make them affordable. What will remain would be weekend joy cars and offroaders, which means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.

thanks Tom.
These are the same douche bags who won't let Ford sell a 60mpg car in USA (currently sold in EU) because it's a diesel. WTF?
It should be apparent that the question on their minds is not fuel economy, emissions, or safety, it's POWER. (as in: their power/control over the land).
Meanwhile they jet around to global warming conferences in their private jets....

oh well, can't fight the power, perhaps... might as well give in. Here's a new line from PG- bike audio. Will it be all we want it to be? Only time will tell....
oh, and all those surplus rims and fat rubber get sold to EU, a more capitalistic place than USA these days. Here's my cousin Tony's project FIAT.

Don't get me started on that one either. I think forcing the automakers to stop using their private jets was a terrible idea. Companies get those things because it SAVES money. The CEOs get paid thousands an hour, so they lose heaps of money when commuter flights get delayed. Not to mention they hold meetings while they are in the air, so they are productive while they are flying across the continent instead of wasting cash.OldSchoolFool wrote:Meanwhile they jet around to global warming conferences in their private jets....
Calling them on that was lame pandering at best. The way the media jumped all over it, it might as well have been a missing white girl.
I think the only good thing to come out of this auto bailout BS is that I will be able to buy a Fiat 500 thanks to their Chrysler merger

And I think I would be the first person to buy your new bike lineup

Phil? Never heard of him...
I am not at liberty to discuss new products. Sorry.
Soon I will be....
Yeah- knock the auto CEOs jets, then private jet across the world fighting carbon.
Hello AlGore, manbearpig. Have you seen that guy's electrical bills? I don't care what people do, corporate CEOs, or AlGore, but only one of thoes people is preachin', lawmakeifyin', and holier than thou WHILE at the same time living a completely overblown lifestyle.
Have you ever read Animal Farm? Some pigs, er, uh, people are more equal than others, I suppose. Not exactly the leaders I want my kids to suffer because of.

Isn't it funny, in this dire circumstance the economy is in, that the assholes running things have decided now is the time to KILL JOBS? What are they
? This is Oregon after all. A state with 96% undeveloped land, 4x4's out the ass, huntin', fishin', off roadin', snow boardin', surfin', fuckin', drinkin'... you know, cool things to do involving a car, a cool car.
Speakin' of drinkin'- the same dumbass governor wants a 2000% increase in the beer tax. That's $2 more a pint. $4-5 more a six pack. We fucking invented the modern craft beer industry. Now they want to kill that too. It's not like Big Beer needs to worry, it's the locals who sell most of their beer here. So local brewery jobs fail, the people who build the machines fail, the farmers who grow the hops locally fail.... This will kill thousands of jobs state wide.
Why not just keep the job killing regulations to a bare minimum right now, eh? They are using this "emergency" to put through a lot of kooky stuff we would never put up with. We won't recognize ourselves when they are done. Oh wait, progressives are never done telling you how to live.
I think Hitler said it best:
"What luck for the rulers that men do not think". He would know, so do our rulers.

Beer is super fucking expensive up here in Vancouver compared to down there in Oregon, but people here still drink beer, and lots of it. We don't have nearly as many craft and micro brews as Oregon, but BC is no slouch either. The prices aren't currently choking up anyone up here. I'd hate to see that happen down there though... damn now I want a 1.89L Rogue Dead Guy Ale.
I'm not gonna imply that higher alcohol prices are good or will serve any useful purpose in Oregon but as far as I can tell, high taxes on alcohol isn't hurting the BC craft and micro brew industry.

I think the U.S. should follow suit, and protest this bullshit that those in power are trying to implement.

I can see your point. However- raising prices on things only makes fewer of those things get purchased. Can you think of a commodity that when the price of is raised by 50% or so sells as much as or more as before the hike? When gas went to $4+ a gallon, people used less. Gas stations didn't go out of business, but the State of Oregon suffered a gas tax revenue drop and immediately started on about raising the gas tax to make up the difference... and they don't even spend the gas tax money on roads!
If less beer is served, made, sold, etc. there has to be a downside... and it's not on the GOVERNMENT side of the equation. (except when they receive less tax revenue due to the Laffer effect- and then proclaim the need to raise the taxes even higher because the state budget goes up 8% a year no matter what the economy is providing in tax revenues).
Unemployment goes from 4.6% to nearly 10% in a year, and they are growing the government anyway. Who gets to make up the difference?

I generally agree. There is a difference between raising a price that people have become accustomed to and a price that has been high for a significantly long time that it has become the accustomed price.OldSchoolFool wrote:"high taxes on alcohol isn't hurting the BC craft and micro brew industry"

Everyone has their opinions... we all get off in different ways. I think liberals and conservatives suck equally, or even the whole human race in general. I've found that regardless of the conflict, there is always a pretty much equal ratio of good and bad people on both sides. Politics in general is a pretty dirty field. You either have to suck an insurmountable amount of dick, or buy your way in. Either way, you would have to have the moral fortitude of a saint, in order to get through the climb without turning into an enormous douche.

"...liberals and conservatives suck equally, or even the whole human race in general."
Ah, you've hit on the nub of it. Human nature dictates a desire for control, including control over all the other humans. I am atheist- but enjoy the bible folk I know because they have a set of rules that I like. Put bible thumpers in power and everything changes- suddenly we should all be baptized. Put progressives (much more Red than your average liberal) in power and suddenly we should all pray to the government for salvation. Different religions, same desire.
We have a gay mayor that likes to diddle 17 year old boys. In the rush to make excuses for the lech (rather than demand he step down) the local politicos are basically pushing the NAMBLA line. Suddenly we should all just accept sex between 42 year old men and 17 year old boys. Otherwise you are a bigot, homophobe, etc.
My favorite movie is Road Warrior. Anarchy solves a lot of those political problems.
Q: what do you call a liberal who carries a gun?
A: a mugging victim.
