Thinking about selling the FJ Cruiser

Post by mr tibbs »

And buying THIS:

Image

1986 Toyota HJ61 Landcruiser RHD import from Japan! I was looking at buying a 60s series here in the states and swapping in a diesel motor but the cost of a conversion to a Toyota diesel motor and a 5 speed manual trans would be around $15k to $20k just for the swap!! The imports are low miles (low for a 25+ year old vehicle and lower miles than what is available locally), clean and have the diesel already in them. If I get really daring I just might try one with the 5 speed manual trans already in it from the factory.

The wife is on board with this whole idea. We think it will be tons of fun to build the vehicle (lift, bumpers, custom paint, custom interior) and she is looking forward to going camping and sleeping in the back. After seeing the gas mileage these guys are getting with the diesel motors (around 26 mpg) I have been looking for a way to go diesel. This just might be the ticket and tons of fun too!!

Thoughts??

So, the FJ is sold and I am currently waiting for this rig. 1989 Toyota LandCruiser HJ61, 103K miles, factory cable lockers, and a 5 speed manual trans. This is going to be a blast!!
