And no firework pics! We didn't light off fireworks until after 11pm because of the rain, plus they were lame because I live in Utah. I did get some pics of the storm though!

About 5 minutes after I took these pics it turned pitch black and rained like hell for a solid hour. It was pretty cool!!

quick tip: get the ef-500 out and spook the bird with a quick flash when you take the shot like that :) alternative: board in white and reflect some light up there anyway.

Like the pre-storm ones, shame we rarely get weather like that here.

Nice shots.

The last two are totally raw with no post processing. I really need to get an external flash, I think I'm ready to take on that challenge. I think it would really help with pics like this. It was a pretty cool storm, I had to get some pics! 8)

if you get an ef-500, make sure it's a super. then get some cactus v4 triggers. fun fun fun :)

Oh, and if you want to pick up an mpex lumopro flash, LMK, I'd be interested in getting one shipped out here (that would make it three...)

My weekend photographically:

that's what it's all about! Understand how the pics were taken, what you can do better next time. Why you would want to do something this way or that way... I also disagree that they're "that much better". You're practising and getting better all the time, much as I am. The tricks and limitations are the most difficult bit to understand, but without testing you won't get anywhere. Inspiration and competition is also good.

And I got to freeze my ass off...

BTW: that bottom one has a flash doing the fill, midway between the tripod and the tree, around a yard to the left, set at 1/32. Top and bottom are also reasons why you want an 85/f2!

Can you post the RAW of the bottom pic, or did you take JPG? I'd quite like to do some curve testing, I think you might be able to really pull the rainbow out....

I'll try and post the RAW pic here, but it might be too big. I might have to try and e-mail it too you.

BTW, I just got back from a two day camping trip on the lake. I didn't go hog ass wild with the pics, but I think I got some good ones! I'll start a new thread for that.
