Power of Rsd 1200.1?

Post by steelbath »

hey all, i currently have a tantrum 1200.1 running 2 sw8200 eclipse subs at 2 ohm their rated power is 675wrms each & my girlfriend has 2 rsdc 104 subs which she needs an amp for so i was thinking of lending her the tantrum to run them at 4ohm and perhaps buying a rsd 1200.1 amp to run my eclipse subs at 2 ohm. Does the rsd 1200.1 amp push more than 1200wrms and do they come with a birth cert? as my subs would now be getting less power then what the tantrum gives them.

That sounds like the perfect setup to me.

Yes, the Tantrum and the RSD amp are both underrated to the tune of about 1400-1500 watts. The Tantrum is 4 ohm optimized, the RSD is 2 ohm, so as you said, perfect for both of your installs.

I agree, but it would be nice to hear your thoughts on them head to head.

Yep. One of the guys got 1500w out of his on the bench. The new CEA amp ratings are very stringent.

i even dmm set my rsd 1200.1 @ sqrt(2*1400), after i noticed stipud was letting khpower know a while back it was underrated, and it never has gone into protect once, or had any issues-

Hello, I've run both of them and they are nice. I put them in installs and they are both great amps and seem to be suited to your applications. We just recently installed a tantrum 1200.1 on a d4 L715 in an audi coupe and it absolutely railed. I prefer the tantrum but that is more for the asthetic value...sound about equal....tantrum I believe has a bit a greater consumption rating, but the technology in monos progressed few leaps and bound in efficiency, so it doesn't mean the amp has a greater output, just runs more efficiently. I've never really got to play with the rsd as much as I'd have liked to see but I've heard em run and run they do...L7s suck....just thought that i'd through that in there as an afterthought :D

There may be one in the buy and sell area of the phorum, and most here will ship internationally as well, I've shipped amps all over Europe for friends here. If you are on the market for a strong running nice pg amp I've personally got post here. A xenon 1200.1 that will run full power at any impedance....it is a monster as well but more sq that the rsd or tantrum. If you paid to ship it I'd have no problems selling to you overseas.

i just wanted to add that even though you cannot bypass the internal crossover on the rsd(set to 18db), i still run a 24db lowpass signal to it, and that ,imho, cleaned the signal up
