RSd 1200.1 amp good?

I'm thinking about laying down the 300$ and buying a new RSd 1200.1 amp, what do you think? It will be powering a Xenon sub (12d4 500rms/900max), but may upgrade in the future to a matching RSd competition sub (12d2 600rms/1200max). Making a sealed 1.52 box currently. Will this be a good match with my current sub and give me enough headroom for future sub?

Are these amps good quality, or notorious for anything?

Also, I would like to give a quick run down to make sure my sub project plans will be fine. I'm buying a Phoenix Gold 0 gauge cable kit, which will hook to the RSd amp mounted on the back side of the box, then running a 12g. wire through the sealed enclosure to the sub and wiring it is parallel to acheive 2ohm (correct?). To first coilover terminal, then to second coilover terminal, and then to LED terminal...

Also, I'm going to weld nuts to washers and then permanently fix them to the inside of the enclosure, so I can use bolts to mount the sub and amp. This should allow me to be able to remove the sub or amp multiple times without worrying about screws becoming loose becuase of the MDF getting threaded so many times...

I keep getting questions but I don't want to write them all down becuase I know no one wants to answer all of them! But I want to start this project now and everytime I get an idea I have 10 more problems. If my current sub is d4, how should I wire it correctly? I can't wire it for d2 and the sub only be a d4 or something would break assuredly...

Here's the specs

Power Output:
775W x 1 (4 Ω, 1kHz and 1%THD+N)
1200W x 1 (2 Ω, 1kHz and 1%THD+N)

if its a d4, then that typically means 2 4ohm coils which CAN be wired to 2ohms using a parallel circuit

if you are using the xenon sub, be careful with it on the 1200.1 they can take a beating, but that is more then 2x its rated power

also you will need a block for your 1/0 kit. the rsd's can't take a 1/0 directly into the terminal (in fact, if errin (vw337) hadn't stepped in at pg hq...every rsd amp was going to come with only 8awg terminals!

just wanted to add ive been using a rsd1200.1 on my 2 rsdc 10s for a year now, and no issues, i even have it dmm tuned to 1400, via square root method;never gone into protect, or ovl yet-and i beat it hard!

RSD's are rock solid amps. That will be a lot of power for your Xenon... You could easily go to a pair of RSD competition woofers on that amp.

If you just want a single sub, you might consider saving the cash and going with an RSD600.1 instead.

Ok, alot to think about, but thanks for all the answers so far.

Maybe I'll go with a Xenon600.1 because I saw one or two on ebay and it was much cheaper than a 1200.1. That should still be plenty for my 500/900 sub, yes? Then maybe in the future when I have more experience and learn more stuff I can upgrade 2 like the RSd1200.1 and a pair of RSd's, or whatever..

If I go that route, I can also get a smaller power cable, like a 4 gauge, right? And that should allow me to hook to the amp without need special adapters?

for power the bigger the better ........ this way you wont have to worry about replacing it later when you want to add more gear so stay with the 0

Hey man I have like a pretty much brand new RSD 1200.1 for sale. It has only seen power 3 times. I also have 50 feet of 2/0 wire and 29 feet of 1 gauge for sale. Here is the thread on the amp.

Edit: If it is too much for Xenon you can just make up for it with the gain and then you will have tons of headroom for later setups like 2 Dual 2 Ohm RSDC's.

Anyone know how large of a gauge you can attach to the amp? Apparently I need an adapter block if I use something like 0,1,2, but what cable should I have exiting the block?

i use 4 gauge on mine, and seriously, you need to cut that 4 gauge perfectly( the rsd leaves no room for frazzled, frayed 4gauge like you can make work on the ti, zx series amps, ) that is my only complaint of the rsd amps, and i know lots of posts saying vw337 had to stress that 2 pg about ensuring the input for power and ground were made to accept 4 gauge-(not 8 gauge as ive heard others mention)-
