Question regarding Xenon wiring

Post by sotelomichael »

Hi guys!

I have a phoenix gold xenon x600.1 coming my way and I will be using 2 dvc 4ohm subs that take around 200 - 500 RMS each. I was wondering how I should wire the subs up.

I see that the amps have 4 screws to install the subs, which would 1 positive 1 negative to a sub and another positive and another negative to another sub, this is stereo correct?

Should I wire the subs to amp like this (stereo) or should I wire them up in mono? (bridged) I ask because there are 3 options for me.

First I can wire the subs in the bridged mode to 1 ohm or 4 ohm, and the third option would be my suggested up top, @ 2 ohm. I know the amp is 1 ohm stable, but would it be stable in stereo for 2 ohms?

But in general, I know 1 ohm is more stressful on the electrical system in my car, but I can imagine 800 watts is 800 watts regardless of ohms (correct me if I'm wrong)

Would I notice a significant difference in terms of dimming or stress on the electrical system if I go 1 ohm instead of 4 ohm? Furthermore, how about @ 2 ohm stereo?

If you can provide some input I'd be very grateful :D Let me know fellow PG owners 8)

the amp is a mono amp, so it can't make stereo sound.

the terminals you see are wired together on the inside.

+ to + , - to -

also, that amps power supply allows it to make much more power at 4ohms. the extra current at 1ohm makes it generate more heat, so the power supply scales back. it will make its rated 600watts at 1ohm, but not the 800+watts it will at 4ohms

with that amp you would have been better off with the single voice coil 4 ohm version rather then the dual voice coil.

ok so I should just use 2 of the screw down terminals? or all 4? And I will heed your suggestion for running them at 4 ohm. :D Thanks! Anything else you can suggest?

right but how often does one come across 2 single 4 ohm sound splinter RL-i8's?

Why is that? With two DVC 4 ohms that gives him a 4 ohm final load, which is absolutely ideal for the Xenon monoblocks.

Wire the subs in series. You can wire them parallel inside of the box, and run one set of speaker wire to one set of terminals on the amp, or you can wire them each individually. Doesn't matter!

i like to only use 2 terminals because it uses less wire...but it really doesn't matter.

then you could wire each sub's coil in series for 8ohms each driver. then wire the pair of subs in parallel back down to 4ohms.

I wasn't thinkin, yer right that putting them in series and the parallel the two will net a 4 ohm load.

I am not use to the xenon stuff, shoulda stuck to what I know......

Thanks for all the replies guys! 4 ohm is the way to go then!

I'll be using this :

Then wire them up to the amp like this?

Thanks Man!

And for everyone that commented I thank you too, there are far too many forums that just ignore someone new requesting some advice (probably the spoon feeding thing though lol) but I do thank you all for contributing :D I'll get some pics up as a reward for you all to see 8)
