88-96 chev 1/2ton. Stereo setup??? pics.

So i got a new truck. Well, new to me. A 1990 chev stepside, reg cab. Lowered, rims, custom paint, etc.. But no stereo. I need some ideas.
Things i have are:
-2- 12" xs dual voice coil subs
-outlaw amp
-elite components 6.5"
-m25 amp
-cap, and all wiring.

Problem is that the truck has factory 4x6 speakers in the dash and rear pillars. I dont know if i should get 4x6 speakers to install, or cut up my door panels and install the components (dont really like this idea) or get newer door panels that already have the 1" 6.5" spots already(but dont know of the modifications needed for the power windows, locks, and door handles) I need some ideas.

I also want the sub installed under the bench seat. Anyone ever done this? I was just thinking under the pass side, so that i can keep my seat all the way back as im pretty tall. Also, I want my amp behind the seat with lots of room around it so it doesnt get scratched, etc.

Lastly if i was going to get 4x6 speakers, ive been looking at infinity kappa 4x6 plate setup with 1" and 4" speakers in them. Are they any good? is there anything better in that size????

I have always hated 4 x 6s in those trucks. You can't get shit for sound out of them and there are some tabs that are easily broken when replacing the rear speakers. I would go with out rears rather then put any money in 4 x 6's..

Ever considered kick panels? You can probably get a 5.25 or 6.5 and gain some better imaging while you are at it....

under seat boxes are not that hard to make. IF you make a mock-up out of carboard you can simply transfer most of the patterns and measurements to wood.

Sorry for the picture size. I have tried to resize a couple times now, and they dont get any smaller, and they keep loosing quality.. so i'm just going to leave them.lol

I agree with the lack of sound quality out of the 4x6's. But really dont want to hack anything to make bigger speakers fit.. I though about putting kick panels in, but am not sure on how they will sound being so low down.

I also thought about putting the components behind the seats in the corners in some custom kickpanels, and still running some speakers in the front dash, but dont think any speaker i put in dash will be able to keep up.

My buddy has a truck with that body style and I think kick panels would be great. I know they seem low but kick panels really image very well. Get some towels and wrap the back of the speakers and place them in the kick panels. Get in the driver seat and move the speakers around and see where they image the best. This is a trick I learned from Eric over at ID. It will give you a good idea where to angle your speakers to get a good stage. You might also consider a pair of the 3.5 inch rsd coaxials in the dash and some 6.5 rsd midbass in the doors if you dont like kicks. Those 3.5's are cheap and are supposed to have very linear response. I cant wait to see what you decide to do, best of luck.

I thought you said extended cab and that was before you put pics. Yer not going to get much of a sub under the front seat.

I checked it out, and i can fit the 12" under the seat if i raise the seat up 1". That will give me roughly .95 cubic feet in a sealed box. There is alot of room under there but the seat has to be removed to get the box under.

Does anyone know of kickpanels already made for this truck?

I love that style pickup but hate the stock speaker placement/size as probly everybody that's ever wanted good sound does...... I'd have to agree with the idea of kick-pods due to the amount of room on the floor...... As for subs.............. If yer gonna get the Outlaw in there you might look into a slimline 12 of some sort.... I seen a JL install last summer in that truck that kicked some ass....... 3-13TW5's on a slash 1000.1 and 450/4 pushin a pair ZR800-CW in a kick-pod off the rear and a set of the ZR650-CSi's in the door off the front...................Although the setup was probly $5000 plus.......... and had different seats aswell.......

HAHA. i'm getting old. I dont need anything to crazy. I'm really after more sound quality than loud. Thats why i was thinking about using just one 12" sub... i really want to use the elite components cause they've just been sitting for so long. I'm going to look into door panels off a 96 truck tomorrow.. they have 1" and 6.5" holes already molded into the door.. will find out tomorrow.

another vote for the kick

actually....a sweet idea may be to snag those infinity's or other 4x6 and cross them over high and then run a dedicated midbass in the kick

also, they make kicks to relocate the parking break if that is in the way

DO NOT get plates. You lose what mid bass you'll get, go w/the oval 4 x 6 coax's. I heard a set of the Memphis Mclass 4 x 6's and was impressed for what they were.

I'm not a huge Memphis fan by any means, but they do have some good stuff out now, but their shallow mount sub/s are very good. I'd take one of them over the JL's any day. I've heard both and for the price and sound, the Memphis has it.

Nice truck BTW. Looks very clean. I like that style too. Might be why I have the step side too?????

I have a 88' standard cab long box Chevy and used to run 1-12" under the seat. I couldn't make a box with enough volume and switched to two XS104DVC subs, one under the passenger side and one under the driver side. I made the boxes as shallow as possible and had to make grill covers so that when I sat down I wasn't sitting on the woofer. My suggestion to you is to either raise the seat a little (make sure you secure it properly!) or find a shallow mount sub. With these trucks there isn't much room for a standard 12" subwoofer. As for the 4x6's in the rear I say leave them disconnected. They are a pain in the a$$ to get to and won't help with staging. Go for the kicks or the new door panel like you mentioned instead.
