im porting each 2.0ft cubic box in my car that houses my 2 RSD12's. The ports will be built to specs but my question is would it be ok if i put an elbow on the outside of the box and port itself? it would direct the airflow so it doesnt go straight up. or does it not even matter?
thanks

porting question
Ports can be entirely inside the box, outside the box, or a bit of both. Elbows are fin, but make sure there are no serious ridges to disrupt airflow if you are using PVC or something. When you add bends to the port, you have to measure it's center line length, not along any wall.
Good Luck,
Jason

im sure itll sound better if the sound waves coming out of the port first hit the rear trunk wall or say a rear hatch windsheild then came forward into the front cabin area. If youve noticed when sitting in different cars ull notice they all sound different even with the exact same equipment also each different make has its own freq of a "sweet spot". im sure somewhen else will chime in with the technical terms and explination.

A port is essentially a passive radiator and in most cases, to avoid cancellation, should fire in the same direction as the drivers.

generally subs and ports firing in the same direction always seems to work great. You just have to move your box around and point it and/or position the box closer or further from the back untill u find the sweet spot that just sounds amazing bass wise.
Some vehicles like ports back and subs up like suvs , some vans and a few cars
