Bass signal fluxuates?

Post by Stereo Junkie »

Some of you might be familiar with my system for others here it is:

Nak cd500 feeds
TiDEQ feeds
PLD1 feeds
M44 feeds
exile 2400.1

Okay recently I've noticed that the bass in my truck is lower than it should be when it is around volume 20 to 30 on the Nak. If I turn it up to say 40 or so the bass kicks in again at it's "regular" volume. If I turn it down again to 20 or 30 it might stay at it's "regular" level or it might cut out again. It never really cuts all the way out and it doesn't seem to be variable. It just goes from half on to all on and back again depending on the volume of bass being played. I am trying to figure out if this is coming from the head unit or if it is a by product of the 2400.1 (changing between high amperage to high voltage visa versa)? Or if it is the TiDEQ?

On a side note for those who own a TiDEQ I've also had to open mine up three times to completely put a screw back on that holds the pcb board to the case. I only notice that there is a problem when I'm driving along and hit a bump and the stereo might go haywire or might not. Every time this happens I open up the TiDEQ and sure enough one of the pcb screws has completely come loose. It is not the same one each time either. Anyone else had this issue of keeping the pcb screws in the TiDEQ tight?

Thanks,
Stereo Junkie

interesting...the screws are easy enough...blue(med) or removable lock tight is best for stuff you'll want to get out without a drill and luck.

As far as the bass signal goes...could be a loose wire...could be a great many things.

first try to run a different sub amp to see if it is the amp itself or the hu...or even something in between...cable...whatever....

deqs are tedious to program...sold all mine in and went back to the traditional eq slides...

I've got a x2400.1 and It hasn't done anything weird at all....as you shift stuff around you'll figure out what the hell is going on....try measuring your signal voltage from the hu too...if there is some abnormal signal voltage fluctuation then it is the hu or the eq....the shift from high current to high voltage shouldn't effect the output as described...

a good tip for the loose screw if kinda relucktant to u lock tight or anything else go to a local hardware with that screw not lowes or home depot (they dont have a wide selection) and buy a thin small lock washer and then put it in the tideq and that should solve that problem make sure the washer is the same type of metal as the screw though.

good thinking Knightrider!!!!....I've actually had issues with lock tight...not on mobile equipment but I've drilled out more screws on rc cars then I care to count and I learned to use it very very sparingly

no problem the reason I say use the same metal guys some boards transfers the grounding through the pcb mounting bolts and other reasons so the same metal wont effect anything also if u cant find a small enough washer then jus buy the same spec diameter bolt but jus the next size length up and it shouldnt cause any problems with a lock washer, now remember its gotta be a lock washer not a normal washer because then the regular washer and bolt will vibrate loose from most sub application with all that bass  . Also bogart wasnt my idea jus soundstreams with the way the use to mount their old 90's area amp boards with those washer Im sure everyone has taken one or two of those apart in the past.

I have owned but never broke one down...I had sx 500 back in the 90s and they were new....on two granite 15's.....they never had issues in the day....I have a a4kdn that is the same amp pretty much as the os soundstream 6600 and it has the same thing too but that is a Malaysian board....

wouldn't you want the line driver before the eq?

not on the deq you don't....they won't take it in front...says it in the manual if I am not mistaken...deq has to be the first in line from the source unit. I only know that because I've had a few....otherwise that should be the case...they have funny signal scales in comparison to other pg eqs....I though they were a big pain in the ass and the laptop thing is bullshit in 2009....took me months to even find one with a serial port
