tekkie question

Post by oldskoolmseriesfan »

Im starting to get seriouse about my stereo again, now that I got my alt whine fixed. My front stage consists of Focal Access 6.5 components. My 6.5's are in the stock location in the doors, the doors are sealed and deadened. My tweets are up in the a pillars, about eye level,(8 inches or so, a little high for my liking). I also have some polyglass co-axes in the rear deck with no power( rear fill sux :safe: ) My question is what if I moved the tweets down about 2 inches and installed the polyglass co-axes in the kicks. Would I get to much interference from the 4 tweets? Or should I install some 8's in the doors and put the Access mids in the kick panel, and forget about the co-axes. I would sell the co-axes but one of the cones has a "screw driver slip :( " this does not affect the performance but it affects sellability
What do you guys think?

It depends on what you want!! I would get some 8's for the doors, put the 4's in the kicks and use the pillar tweets as fill, passing them off at 7kHz or so and attenuating them quite a bit. This would take some serious processing as well as amplification but it would be worth it in the long run.

You could also keep the 6's, depending on how low they play now and set up the kicks and the pillars the same as above. I've seen a car with 4's in the kicks AP that play low, and still have some upper vocals.

I would avoid using four tweeters up front.

If you want something more than a single component set up front, I suggest going with 8's in the doors and moving the mids to kicks. Tweeters can be left in the A-pillars if you like the height that they give the stage up there but I find them a bit too harsh and in your face up there, I prefer them on axis and near the kicks for clean imaging.

Yeah I agree, fuzzy, Ive already flipped the switch for the tweets on the passive too -3db and they are still too harsh with the MS275 hooked up. Ive been thinking of diffrent ways to incorparate the tweets in the kick pods w/the 6.5's, right directly dead center of the 6.5's, so they kinda look like they are floating infront of them if you know what I mean, Ive seen this done in one of my old mags, Ill have to dig it out, they said the imaging and depth was unreal, the hard part is trying to hide the wires of the tweet.
Ill see if I can draw sumthin up and well see how she goes 8)

Ill keep uze updated. Thanx 4 all the help guyz 8)

How have you aimed your tweets? Pointing directly at you? Or firing straight at each other across the glass?

The tweets are firing straight at each other across the glass.I think once I get my EQ 215x in the mix, I should be able to tone them down abit. As I said earlier they are about eye and ear level, so if I dropped theyre placement down a few inches, that might help aswell. As it stands right now the stage is a bit high.
