Alternator Voltage

Post by ChaosWarlord26 »

I am wanting to increase the voltage of my charging system. I have 15v bats and want to have a steady system voltage of 15v. not 13.9 or 14.1. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 3.7l with the stock 136 amp alternator. I have been trying to search for something like an external voltage regulator but I dont think that will help because I think the Alt is internally regulated. I figured this would be a good place to start asking.

There was a product a few years back called the Jacobs Accuvolt and they had a few versions of regulators. IIRC they had a 16v model but you'll need to be careful. It has to get the power to increase to 16v so guess how much harder it'll be taxing your current electrical system.

if you have 2 batteries and want more volts, you should look into a HO alt.

or just throw a cap in...

what about the US Amps Optimizer- output of 16v and up to 100 amps...
The limit of 100 amps is what turned me off of that item, but maybe it works for you?

I have 2 Shuriken SK-bt60 bats, and a 10 farad cap. I dont play my stereo at loud volumes very much, mainly just at competitions. Mainly because I only have a 3 min drive to work and I work in a school district on top of that.....So I guess I was just looking for a simpler solution besides throwing down $600 on an alt. I guess I may have to just do that though.....Maybe for income taxes or something.....

check www.powerbastards.com out... they very reasonable pricing, and they build their alts from the ground up- versus taking a stock/oem alt and tweaking and re-wiring it (which causes them to burn up eventually I know from experience...)... which can pose problems down the road ...
i mean, shit i got one and have had good luck so far... a little rough in the beginning, but think it was my fault with metal shavings and such falling into the alt.. but resolved and working like champ now. 14.3, 14.5, 13.8 are number i typically see, the Fitzall 220A...

these guys were referred to me by randy and he has had news from them too as far as i know....

@ 16V the limit is 90 amps.......it's only rated for 100 amps at 14.4V, if you can find more than one they can be wired for any current load......They would usually go to your comps, so 90 amps should be more than sufficient for a front stage.....eliminating all voltage drop is really what your after with those.

try missing link audio, the pro series modules enable you to select voltages

Thanks for all the replies and answers. I simply cannot find out where or any purchase info on the Missing Link Audio modules though. That probably looks like my most effective solution as long as the price is not too high. Thanks again.

I met the guy that started the company when I was last in Las Vegas catching up with Scott from Fi, they both said they weren't cheap, but Scott really raved about them. I think if you just call the number you will get all the info you need.
