Any suggestions for an install with a Route 66 amp

Hi everybody,

First, I wish you all a Happy New Year 2010.


I have a Route 66 Anniversary Edition amp and would have some advises for a install.
I had the hope to find some installs with a Route 66 amp here in the forum, but found nothing :(
Do you all keep your amps under the beds or in their boxes?
I can't believe that.


I already have the speakers for the front and rear doors.
Unfortunately, there are no car-audio shops in my town with PG speakers, so I took some from MTX.
Front : MTX THS 652
Rear : MTX THX 502

My head unit is not a car radio, but a pc.
The sound comes out directly from the mainboard (2/4/5.1/7.1-channel) and will be connected to the EQ215i for the front channel and to the amp for the rear channel.

With only front and rear speakers, my install is not complete.
I have no sub, and I don't know what size and what kind of sub I can or I should use with a Route 66 amp?

I don't want to built a killer install and don't want to go to some SPL competition.
All I want is a simple but efficient install that sounds good for a budget that won't cost me a leg and a arm.


You may want to know what kind of car I have.
It's an Opel Omega B 2,5 TD Caravan.

Yes, it's a station wagon and it's powered by a 6 in line 2,5 liter turbo diesel engine from BMW.
In England, it's a Vauxhall and in the USA, it's a Cadillac Catera, but only as a limousine and with a V6 engine.

I hope you have some good advise for me.

You can drive a smal subwoofer with M25 (bridged) section and a small component set with the M44 section.
The M25 will give you about 140Wrms and de M44 gives you 4 x 55Wrms by 14.4Volts.

get an efficiant 10 or 12" sub ratd at about 200-250 wrms and you should be fine!

why not take an home audio sub, like the Peerless 835016, 10" XXLS Subwoofer.
I'ts rated 300Wrms, 4 Ohm.
It's priced 199€.

SAS (Bazooka) used to have an excellent little 10" sub that would take about 200w and had a little over 1" xmax. They were excellent sounding subs. EL1014 I believe. you can still find them on ebay for CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP (I bought the one in my wife's car for 17.00 plus shipping). I am running one in my wife's car off of 150w RF amp and it blends well and really hits pretty hard for a single 10.

here is one for 32.00 - 1.14" of xmax, 250w rms, single 4-ohm

Wen you say efficient, do you mean it's sensitivity?

If I'm not wrong, I think a speaker with a good sensitivity, something above 90db, can work very good with a low power amp, right?
So, with 140 WRMS out of the M25, I do need a sub with a sensitivity above 90db.

Am I right with that?

I dont know if parts express will ship to Germany, but the Dayton HO and Dayton HF subs are supposed to be really sweet subs that wont break the bank.

Nice ride! I wish the USA got the 2.5TD. I used to have a 99 Cadillac Catera sedan with the 3.0L V-6. Although the reviews were poor in the press, I really liked that car. The interior was and still is fabulous. The biggest problem was that the 3.0 V-6 had a poor maintenance record. Granted it worked just fine in the time I had the car... It ate tires like a champ though!!! Every 20K miles whether you wanted to or not.

Maybe a 10 or 12 RSd subwoofer? Or if you can get them I think some of the Image Dynamics subs in the entry line are suited to fit. Don't forget about JBL, most of their speakers are very efficient. Since it is local maybe take a look at what CDT has, should be made in Germany, but I am not familiar with their subwoofer line up.

Hi guys,

What about a QX12 sub?

I found nothing about QX12 in the forum.
I have no idea if it would be a good choice for my amp.
Does anyone knows what kind of box is needed for that sub?

PG's QX line was the lower line at the time. Just FYI. I've never personally heard them so I can't comment on their sound.

I used the Qx back in the day. I have to say for cheap subs that only need 100-150watts
I really found jl w0 and w1 sounded warmer and louder than the qx. they are a entry level sub but some like them
most of my gear is gone :liar:
