Just picked up MS1000 & MS275!!

Just picked up MS1000 & MS275!!

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I discovered it from another website by someone who owns these amps...haha.

Anyways, my friend the audio purist extraordinaire tells me these two amps are amazing and will blow away my current setup (which consists of some expensive modern name brand gear).

The MS275 has been in my living room for a few weeks now, but the MS1000 is on its way to NYC from LA. I originally had plans on going active, EQ, etc. but he convinced me to get these two amps, keep it passive and I will be more than satisfied.

So the setup is gonna be the following:

MS1000 to drive 2 JL 10W6v2s (sealed), and Morel Elate 3 way front stage, with the MS275 driving the Morel Integra Ovation 6.5" rear stage. Very simple, elegant and beautiful.....no bi-amping or anything crazy.

He's hooking me up with an Audison crossover to handle the LP to the subs, HP to the front stage, and the HP to the rear fill.

I've been promised tremendous gains in midbass, richness to my midrange and treble, and even better imaging. He's an animal and tells me I can run the components without a HP crossover....LOL.

This is all very sick stuff.....I hope it's all true and will definitely post a review of it when it's all said and done (in a few weeks hopefully).

I'm very excited!

nice gear! that sounds like a hell of a system. welcome to the PGP!

REPLACE THE CAPS, send the good Eric D. or 1moreamp a pm about your ms275's caps. Both have worked on my PG MS amps and I have nothgin but great things to say about them both. They are the only teo people who I will ever let work on my PG amps. I trust them more then PG. Or refer to Eric D.'s how-to w/ cap replacement.

also the ms1000 is a POS :wink:
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?

You have made a wise choice and welcome.

If you by chance get the MS275 in and find it lacking in power look for a MS2125. The MS275 is a work horse but may not match power wise with the MS1000 for what you are doing. Also make certain you build up your charging system a lot as the MS amps love to eat power and get real hot while doing so. :twisted:
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

Are you kidding? The MS275 will be OVERKILL if anything. It's just powering rear fill! :lol:

Sorry mis-read the initial posting........didn't see it was for rear fill, who need that anyway? :lol:

BDUBS: My friend told me that cap replacing would be okay, but doubts replacement caps are of the same quality as of yesteryear for sake of price (hence his belief why older amps are better than newer ones on average).

How can you confirm replacement caps are as good or better than original?

THUMPER: Yes, that is the ebay auction I won...:)

VW: I've been told that a MS275 can run an entire system and still sound good....so running some rear fill is a piece of cake.

As for rear fill itself.....eh....my rear seat passengers will be treated to some of the best rear fill out there in car audio. Morel Integra coaxials driven by a muscular MS275 with 2 10" subs right by your arms...

Some of the stuff is newer, like the JL subs instead of Alpine Type Rs...and of course you can see my current amp setup as well.

I'll leave this to Doc and Cecil...but I will say your firen dis dead wrong about the caps, unless he likes fires.

Capacitors wear down over time, and can leak. This fluid can short out, and cause small electrical fires and other problems. On any older amp it is a good idea to upgrade your capacitors. It is very easy to do, and new capacitors typically pack much more capacitance into the exact same size. Replace the ones in the MS275 now, and the amp will be good for at least another 10 years, and by then we will be running 1000 gigavolt charging systems in our hovercars ;)

Modern parts (capacitors, resistors, transistors, diodes, etc) are WAY better than older parts.

The issue these days is not the use of better or worst parts than back in the day, it is the “cookie cutter” amplifier designs, which often offer inferior performance compared to older amps.

The best amps today would be amps from the past upgraded with all newer parts. Hence the reason PG MSTA amps are really better than older MS amps, but lack the output voltage, as they were intentionally neutered to keep from overheating. Jack the voltage to old school levels, and you have a superior amp in every way.
