Titanium amps question

Post by yeddy »

So I just got my hands on a few Ti amps a 500.4, 600.2 and a 1200.1 from the bay... Now something common in all three amps is the main rail caps are swollen. Obviously I need to replace them all, is this really common? there is no other obvious damage anywhere else on the amps, is there anything else that should be replaced?

If you are going to replace the rail caps, I recommend swapping them all out. That way you know they are good for 10 years. Just my 2 cents.

I tried taking some pics, but they didn't turn out too good, couldn't get my camera to focus close enough to see the swelling caps. Most of them have rounding tops and look abnormal. It feels hard under the plastic covers. the amps all play fine with a 10amp fuse. What causes this to happen?

I might be wrong, but I believe capacitor swelling is
an ominous sign that you should go ahead and replace them if
you desire a reliable amp. I probably need to check mine too.

There is only 1 screw holding the board in! It should be pretty easy to replace these caps...
