Testing Equipment

Post by jbob0124 »

Im looking to test some of my old gear, and some "new to me" (aka used). I don't have anything run in my truck anymore, so at the moment hooking it up that way won't work. What do I need to do so I can test inside the house? Im not looking for a permanent / semi-permanent setup, just a quick plug it in to make sure it works setup.

I plan on simply running it off a cd/dvd player in the house, I just need to get the power supply side figured out.

I know a good handheld O-scope that a few industry professionals have been recomending for less then $100 if you are interested. Thinkin about getting one myself.

You will need a power supply, and for checking if working purposes, I think 20A is more than enough. I suppose you could just use a battery if you wanted too.

That scope looks great to me so far. It is so small, and you don't have to drag a bunch of big equipment or electrical cords out to the vehicle.

I have seen a pic of it in someones hands and it is tiney. Also has a great Vp reating(70 volts or something stupid before the x10 probe).

Like I said I know some pro's that bought it and have been using it and have no complaints. If I had an extra $90 I would be out matching my gains with it right now.......

AND OF COURSE YOU ALL KNOW HOW MUCH I HATE SCOPES

I'm just looking for the power supply at the moment. If I bought the O-scope right now there would definitely be some operator errors

Thats perfect size. i may have to pick up one.

For testing 20 amps should cover it , if ya actually wanna run stuff like a amp to subs your gonna need @ least 50.
i use a cheap 50 amp pyrimid power supply and its never done me wrong

I'm going to have to look into one too. My Q is though, where or how does it hook up to the amp? Via RCA or at the amps speaker terminals?

you can do both with this. If you are tuning a line driver for example you can put the probe on the center of the rca pin and then adjus the drivers output until just before clipping happens. Then you can put it on the speaker outputs of the amp and adjuts the gain on the amp again right up to the point of clipping.

Thank you. Sense I have about 10 pairs of RCA's and one is real shitty, I can just cut the end off of one and plug it into the RCA and then connect the scope to that. Cool.

Looks like a handy little tool be nice if we could do a group buy and get 10 or more to save a couple of bucks. I will probably buy one, it says out of stock though.

I might have a line on them if we wanted to do a bunch, not sure if we could get much of a discount on an item that is already marked down so much. If you want on pm me and I will check and see what we can do. If you are just interested if the we can get a discount that is enough for you to consider it a good deal then say that as well and I will put you down as a maybe.

This scope is a MUST for setting amp gains and adjusting before clipping. i always trusted the old multimeter but with this it would be so much more accurate . its portable and hell you could prolly get 10 bucks to scope a buddies system and the thing would pay for itself.

I would say count me in, but honestly I couldn't tell you how to use it let alone what it does. I mean I know basically what it does. I figure I need to get my install up and running before I go tweaking it and that might be a while. :idiot:

I only had 2 pm's, I don't think that a group sale will work. I thought there would be more interest in these for no other reason then to heckle me about 0-scopes :D ?
