Which Amp??
First off, hello from a new guy. I have been researching for the past week on subs an amps, I finally ordered my subs, 2 12'' Kicker Comp VRs and I am really puzzled on which amp to get. I have researched and researched so I'm jus gonna ask. PG RSD 1200.1 or PG RSD 600.1? They will be in sealed boxes running at 4ohm. Jus thought I'd ask the ppl that have the experince with these amps. I really jus don't wanna over or under power them. Thanks in advance

It might draw some flames, but I am of the opinion that you should always buy the most power you can afford or physically fit.
you can always turn down gains without blowing a speaker, but you can only turn gains up so far before it happens

Thanks for the fast response, since you said "physically fit" that brings another question to mind. If I went with the 1200.1 only running it at 4ohm would I need caps or anything or would it be alright? I have only had one other system an that was 4 or 5 years ago. I jus started gettin excited about it again lol
Are there two single voicecoil 4 ohm woofers (2 ohms parallel load), or two dual 4 ohm woofers (4 ohms parallel load)?
If they are both SVC 4 ohm woofers then you will be at the perfect 2 ohm rating for the RSD monoblocks. The 600.1's should be more than enough, but if you can get a 1200.1 for not much more money then go for it.

The RSD amps are designed to put out their maximum power at 2 ohms, so you wouldn't be getting the full power out of them. That's no problem... in fact having added headroom will make the amp run more efficiently and sound better. BUT the new Ti/S/R series monoblocks are optimized for 1 ohm, which means you can use them to their full potential, so you could buy a smaller amp and get the same power out of it as a bigger RSD.
If you can get the bigger RSD cheaper though, then that is probably the better option.

One more question, since the RSD is gonna put out it's max power at 2 ohms will it not be putting out what it says it will at 4 ohm? Really don't wanna get it since it says 790 at 4 ohm then it be way off an the subs sound like crap, is it hard on the RSDs to run at 4 ohm.....thanks for all the help stipud
Oh it will definitely put out 790, if not more.CodyWayne718 wrote:One more question, since the RSD is gonna put out it's max power at 2 ohms will it not be putting out what it says it will at 4 ohm? More power than needed doesnt mean blowing anything up. typically under-powering and cranking your gains to make up the difference is what blows stuff up, because it introduces clipping.CodyWayne718 wrote:Or more?? Should I jus go with the 600.1, really dont wanna blow them either lol I never thought pickin out an amp would be this dern hard
Like I said before, buy the most power you can physically fit and financially afford, then turn the gains down if needed.
Also, even though I run a .5 farad cap in my pickup, I am not a fan of caps, I think they hide some problems and exasperate others. most stock charging systems are sufficient for non-deafening listening volumes... they just need some assistance like upgrading your Big-3. I actually switched the cap in my pickup from my sub amp to my fronts amp. now, instead of being a quick power draw source, its a power filter that keeps the voltage to my mids and highs constant and cleaner. Which may also draw some flames...

excellent!
No offense meant here, but make sure and set your gains correctly... I know for me, even though I have been into car audio since 1991, I still struggle with setting gains... There is a thread here somewhere that has instructions on how to set gains with a DMM.
