Some rear stage advice and a burned out 500.2

Hey fellas,

Sadly, last night my ta500.2 bit the dust. I has some xs8's wired up to it with electrical tape covering the connections because I have to quickly disconnect them at times to get shiat in and out of my trunk. Well, the heat of the summer in south FL killed the electrical tape, so it fell off and let the wires short...while playing.

So I went back there and took out the burned out fuses and replaced with new 30 amps. Went to try it out, heard a pop from the speakers and then both fuses were popped again. I'm pretty sure I fried it. What do you guys think? I'll probably open it up and take a look pretty soon here.

On another note, I would like some advice on some nice 6x9 or thereabouts speakers. I think I could possibly utilize some 6.5's, in which case I'd just get some RSD6.5c's.

I have been running just RSD6.5c's in the front stage of my car both bridged on a 500.4. The 500.4 does a great job of powering them, but the way I had to install the RSD's was ridiculous. It allowed for a fraction of the space they need so as a result, their mid-bass response kinda sucks compared to what I know they are capable of.

For that reason, I hooked up the 6x9 infinitys in the back of the car and had everything on single channels on the 500.4. It sounds pretty nice really...maybe not quite enough power for the RSD's, but thats alright for now. The infinity's just aren't cutting it though because I know there is something else out there that will sound much better. Thats where I'd like your advice. I want something that is capable of filling in the low end more because of the situation with the front RSD's. The xs8's used to do a great job of filling the low end in, but there was still a part of the mid-low range that was lacking.

Most likely you fried the output stage of your amp. Replace a few MOSFET's and you could be good to go again.

And for 6x9's, I like these

OK, how would I go about finding the MOSFETs...PG?

Never heard of Tang Band...

tang band are pretty decent stuff... they make some real nice drivers. I have only ever used their smaller drivers (3") but they sounded excellent and can take a beating.

OK cool, I wasn't sure if that was serious or not because they don't look like much and are cheap...which is AWESOME. I like cheap as long as it sounds good too.

Also, are they good in free air? If not, what should I do...

I have those 6x9's in my parcel shelf running free air and they do a pretty damn good job when my subwoofer is out. If you sealed off your rear deck really well you probably wouldn't miss having a real sub at all.

Thanks stipud, I dunno if I'm up for rebuilding this thing. I've got lots of other projects on my hands right now...maybe later this year when I'm bored!

I spose I'll try those tang bands. Can't hurt

I guess its a good thing that they are just woofers and not coax's or something like that because that would muck up the nice sound coming from my front stage.

For best results you should cross them over no higher than 250Hz or so, though they do roll off nicely at the top end if that's not an option. I definitely agree that you should not be running tweeters in the back.

If your decent with an iron, it should only take about 10 min to fix it. The hardest parts were figuring out how to test them (which is in my thread), finding the correct replacements (which is also in my thread), and then waiting for parts! It really is an easy procedure. I replaced my caps because I removed them, so I figured why but the old ones back in? So you should be good on your caps.

If you do decide to fix it and run into issue, I will help out where I can!

If you don't want to fix it, you want to sell it?

Hey Loogie, I'll definitely try and tackle fixing it if I decide to keep it. How much did parts run you?

I'd sell it for sure if its worth it (money wise). Not sure what its worth in this condition, but considering its easy to fix...

I have heard Stipuds system and I listened to it without knowing his subwoofer was turned off, and then he flipped the sub on...........I seriously thought, until he powered his woofer up, that the Tangbands had enough low end output that you would swear that there was a 10 already playing

This shocked the shat outta me because first, I HATE 6X9'S, and secondly, I HATE REAR FILL EVEN MORE, but the way he's got the system hooked up, those oval bastards perform flawlessly.
Tang Band is a European company, and make very nice speakers, and you can get some of theyre"BASE MODELS"for pennies.

well thats awesome, and probably exactly what I'm looking for then.

I hate 6x9's too, but my rear deck already has them in there (seems like some kind of special bracket that converts from a standard 6 or 6.5 to a 6x9. The car used to have a Bose setup, but that all got recalled by Audi because they were burning cars down so the previous owner obviously converted to all infinity stuff for free from Audi. Not a bad deal, but it was a little bit of a hack job in the front hence my PG components.

Seems like these would be perfect for this though. Thank you guys so much for the suggestion!!

I too hate rear fill, but it seems like these will potentially just blend right in.

I think the parts ended up being about $30 shipped, something like that. I replaced all of my transistors at the same time, as well as the caps, so it was a little bit more. If you just need to replace 2 transistors, then it should be less than $10 shipped I would think. The transistors are like $2 a piece, not very much money at all.

As for buying it, I wish I could, but I am pretty much broke for the moment

Two things...

1) Tang Band is Taiwanese, not European

2) I am not running them as "rear fill" per-se. Rear fill is usually used to describe when you have full range speakers playing in the rear. However, I have my Tang Bands crossed over to play lowpass below 100Hz just like my subwoofer! So these are bona-fide subwoofers that need to be amplified and crossed over just like any other sub.

OK ummm now it seems like my Ti500.4 is biting the dust too. No idea why. I have yet to take a look but the sound keeps going in and out. It will be fine for a second, then fizzle out to nothing, then come back on again.

I have an Hx-d10 that is feeding the Ti500.4 and I don't think that could be a problem since its a dead head...but you never know. I'll have to do some tinkering later on. If anyone has ideas as to what it might bet I'd love to hear them.

First my ta500.2, now my ti500.4, and now I just got stung by wasps twice trying to get the boat ready. FML
