Bass knob really noticable?

Post by CodyWayne718 »

Jus wondering if a bass knob or whatever you wanna call it makes that much of a difference from all the way down to all the way up? If so I might need to invest in one to use until I get my components and what not. Also will the LPL44 work with the RSD line of amps? It doesnt say in this link http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/LPL44.aspx Thanks in advance fellas

the lpl will work in the monoblocks, but not the 2 or 4 channels.

and yes, it makes a difference. it isnt a bass boost, its a sensitivity attenuation. i dont think i could live with a system without one. its about 18 DB attenuation. which is pretty dramatic. it almost sounds like the sub is completely cut out when its all the way down

or you can always add a base cube, I just decided to do so on my mustang. I am running a box with 4 - 8" woofers so it does great on higher bass but I think can use a little help on lower bass....

Now as he said the lpl can only be used on certain models but once you have one you will always want one. It is nice to be able to tune how much bass you want quickly...

also be aware that you can make your own lpl for MUCH cheaper if you know how to solder...

Dunno if I'd wanna chance making my own. Since my gains and everything has been set without the LPL will I be able to hook the LPL up without adjusting anything?

yup, plug-n-play!

It is 4 wires. 4.... Heck I might be in the market for one myself if I can ever find an eq215ix, I could make 2 if you want one.

get a bass cube and an LPL if you have a ported box. even more adjustability. the LPL is only 40 on ebay at the most, chump change.
screw car audio, I'd rather go fast....errr, wait a minute.

yup, it just plugs into the lpl port with a rj12 telephone wire (which as ttocs said is 4 pins)

dont be scared, it wont even change your gains on your amp, it just attenuates them on the knob, if you unplug it, every things as it was.

everyone from around here calls it "the knob"

once you have it you wont ever go without it

like bfowler said ...you can cut all the way down with almost no sub...perfect for around where I live...

Yep i must agree here, the lpl is one of the best feature i added to my system, and i would not own an install without it anymore!

Mine is homemade, cost less than 15$ for the material to do 5, with the crimp tool, so 3$ each. Could probably be cheaper but i'm happy with it!

so with the knob turned all the way up it would be like not havin the lpl at all, right?

yessir. however, becasue i do have it, i intentionally set my gains a hair high, so i have a little more play at lower volumes

My subs easily out muscle my front stage so my LPL is almost never all the way up. I leave my gains dialed to full output if I want to really hammer the subs on some tracks but the LPL allows me to keep the subs at a better level for volume matching the front stage during normal listening.

My gains aren't turned all the way up, I've just set them up to put out full rated output for my amp and then use the LPL to tone it down most of the time.

eBay for a 5 pack at 4$, i can dig in my buy if you want the direct link! I already posted it somewhere on the forum, just can't remember where...

But for 5 lpl it was less than 20$ with the crimping tool, 5 pot, 5 knob, 50 phone connector and a crimp tool, and can't say why but it was cheaper to buy 5 of each than only 1 of each

forget it, I didn't see the audio pot section and was looking in the power supply pots, they are all high current/wattage. Found the 50k linear for $1.90 each 1 at a time. Hell the blue leds I ordered to replace the green in my DD5 with were over $2 each, 10 of those for over $20, I sure do like the blue...

http://onlinecatalog.digikey.com/WebPro ... d=7.2.0.23

there are metal shafts, plastic shafts, they have dent in the middle of the sweep, no dent, and the linear taper is B.

the one I was going to order was P3E5503-ND was metal shaft, dent in the middle of the sweep, and linear output B for $1.90 each if you order one at a time..
