I fatmated my whole jeep....never smelled itbruther wrote:I used Fatmat on my early vehicles and SecondSkin products on my Infiniti. Without a doubt, go with Secondskin. The adhesive is great and you don't get the same smell like Fatmat....

as fowler said most of the old brands were asphalt based and have since been fazed out because of the smell they produce being a carcinogin an all. Beside that all the old stuff was good for a few years at most.... I can remember my suprise to take the carpet out of my truck to find the adhesive had already failed 2-3 yrs later.
Now second skin can stick to almost everything and on top of that I like the thicker foil as I have never had it tear working it into corners and seems.

Rick's an awesome guy and just great to deal with. I also ordered some supplies from Don, and he was great too. Haven't deal with Ant at SS though, but hear the same.dedlyjedly wrote:A while back I used a fair share of the older BXT and ensolite, both personally and at a shop I used to run. I'm not sure on pricing now, but at the time I felt strongly that RAAMmat was one of the best values available in sound treatment materials.
That's been a few years though, and there's new players in the deadener game. Hell, at the time I remember referring people to SDS just as a reference site that I felt supported my opinions on RAAMmat! Obviously Don has parlayed the web traffic into a business. At first it struck me as if he were just trying to make a quick buck, but after thinking about it, I'm all for it. I bet that Don's, Rick's (RAAMmat) and Ant's (SecondSkin) customers all benefit greatly from dealing with entrepreneurs that are both knowledgeable and passionate about their products and applications. I know I've learned a bit from each of them!
I think it's like many things, all of them have great products that work well.
Personally, I used BXT on the floors of my Tacoma, and BXT II on the doors, rear wall, and roof. Ensolite overtop all of that. I've now got the interior ripped out again to install some MLV on top of all that to try to really kill all the road noise.

when I was in phoenix I was able to meet ant and pick up my product from his warehouse. He was a super nice guy and even after giving me a profesional discount insisted I take a free utility knife and wood roller to do the job with. I was really happy I took the tools as the foil was so thick that I am no sure my old one would have done much to it.
I could invite ant over to explain the differences, maybe with enough interest we could get a group order together and get a discound. He had spent alot of time personally researching all about this and is a really knowledgeable about it....
