Need Source for Output Fets for Xenon 1200.1

Post by cj10488 »

I need to find a cheaper place to pick up roughly 8 output fets P/n IRFP360LC

Anyone know of any leads on getting these.

Thanks again,

cj10488, if you could help out at all with the fault I'm having with my 1200.1, detailed in the thread linked below, I would greatly appreciate it. It may be a similar problem to yours.

Thanks.. avnet will work great. I found a source for another brand with simular specs however it should provide a little better performance.

Fairchild p/n FQA30N40

I have some samples of the fairchild on the way that should be here tomorrow. Has anyone used these as replacements before? Any concerns? From talking with a few SR EEs and looking over the datasheets for both it should be a drop in replacement with slightly better performance.

Thanks again,
James

Ok So I got the New Fets in.. The AMP is no longer blowing fuses but going into protection mode now. Any suggestions?

The Fets were replaced and that was all that was done.

Ok I think I found a bad solder joint.. Fixed that all up and shes sounding good again...

Wish everything was that easy. Now I gotta figure out some way of covering up that other large coil as I think that was what caused the issue in the first place.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again,
James

Bad solder joints are the de-facto Xenon issue, it would seem. They really manifest as some strange issues :hmm:

Good thing is that when they work, they work! Tech wise easily my favorite PG amps as well, because Xe.Load kicks assss :metal:

Ok amp is back installed and working flawlessly. It seems to actually work better than before... The fairchild Fet replacements (FQA30N40) fit perfectly and function perfectly. I personally dont notice any difference in the amp with the new Fets.

As for the bad solder joint that was my bad... When I soldered in the fets I bent them over afterwards. Yes I know thats not the proper way but due to space concerns I had to do it that way and cracked a solder joint in doing so. The Problem seemed to have stemmed from the large coil over in the output FET area and it seems as though it shorted against the case. I have for the time being lined that area with Electrical tape until I can get someone from my old work to provide me with a sheet of Nomex sp? insulation.

I have the amp turned down quite a ways to break the amp back in slowly as well as get some better heat sink gel on the Fets.

Anyways all is good and I am glad it was a simple fix. Fairchild generously provided the FETs as samples to myself to test the functionality.

Thanks again
James
