Help with Subwoofers
I currently own 2 12" Alpine Type S subwoofers. Similar to these...

I want to know how much better the PG RSd12's will be...
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... RSd12.aspx
and by better I mean how much harder they hit, how crisp they sound, how much lower they will go, and just overall how they compare to the Alpine's. Thanks for any help.

its a toss up. the type S's are more efficient so they will be a bit louder overall, player cleaner in the 60hz range and have and use smaller boxes
the rsd's will play cleaner in the sub 50 range, and have a over all lower response curve.

I hope you know that the RSd's on that website are a version that only has a 350 watt RMS....also 109 is pretty high in general for rsd's. they have the 2ohm versions on sonicelectroncs for $40
Ok in general, I want some subs that are going to rattle my car. What will I get with the PG's? The Alpine's RMS at 300, but they have a much larger frequency range. But I feel that the PG's that RMS at 500, will be able to handle a lot more. I mean I have a Memphis amp that puts out 500 RMS, so i kind of feel like i want to use the amp to it's full potential.

I hope you know that both websites have the same RSD's!!DJamesUofM wrote:I hope you know that the RSd's on that website are a version that only has a 350 watt RMS....also 109 is pretty high in general for rsd's. they have the 2ohm versions on sonicelectroncs for $40

If you want something substantially better you could step up to a Type R or RSDc's, but you won't realize the potential of either of these subs unless you have the appropriate power on tap. Does your Memphis do 500 rms total power, or 500 rms for each sub for a total of 1000!?

yeah, i have ran as much as 800 to the normal rsd's. they have a pretty good cooling vent system. rms is a number that tells you how much power you should run so safley run the subs. its not a very good number to go by to predict how loud it will be. use the sensitivity for that, combined with the rms. as a rule of thumb you can predict that 3rd of sensitivity is equal to doubling (or halfing) the power/
for instance. a sub with a rms of 300, and sens of 90 should be as loud as a sub with 150watts, and 93db senes (assuming you are powering them at their rated rms)
if you want something that will rattle your car, the rsd's wont do a better job then the type S's. actual, probably a bit worse since lower notes take more power to create.
another thing to consider. all the subs we are talking about are all 12's with about the same xmax. no mater what 12 you go with. it isnt going to be more then 3-5 DB difference. if that is enough, then you should be fine. if you want more, you have to change your box, get more power, add more cone area....or all 3
i think if you held out for a type r, or rsdc, and put it in a ported box, you would be hitting the number you want.
600+ watts plus 2 of of those 12's^ in a ported box should net you 140 easy
