i read up on the box style what iso box are you talking about? also it said that it increase power handling but i think maybe i don't have the extra power? the pc2100 in stereo will only make about 133-150 w rms. so i don't think i will have the power to drive them hard? maybe im wrong

Mike, ya should have bought a DD 6.5" or 8" sub, they would blow those MB's outta the water.....

Wiring woofers in series. It's a bad idea even if the woofers are identical. There's this thing called thermal runaway. When one voice coil gets hotter than the others, its resistance rises slightly more than the others'. This causes the hottest voice coil to rob voltage from the others which causes it to get even hotter. Its a vicious circle.

Dual voice coil is different, because the voice coil windings are at the same temperature and they drive the same cone anyway.

Please do a little more research into ohm's law before posting something like this.

Sure it's "possible" if two drivers are out of alignment that impedance swings throughout the passband "can" happen! However, the discrepancies between two identical drivers (of any decent quality) should be minimal in the worst of cases and nearly non existant for good quality product.

Furthermore, you have completely contradicted yourself when you state:
"When one voice coil gets hotter than the others, its resistance rises slightly more than the others'. This causes the hottest voice coil to rob voltage from the others which causes it to get even hotter. Its a vicious circle".

"IF" by some strange occurance one voice coil does in fact heat up considerably more than the other (a problem in quality control and is a problem before we even get to this argument of series wiring) the over heated voice coil does NOT "rob" voltage from the other voice coil!!! Think about what you're saying. You are correct in that a heated voice coil will raise its impedance!! For this reason it's the "other" voice coil which will see the higher voltage.... again, check Ohm's law if you think I'm wrong :?

Now, if all of this eroneous behavior does happen to occur (one voice coil heats up before the other) then the "cooler" coil will actually see more voltage and actually start to catch up to the heated one due to the extra power it's dissipating!

All of this is pretty much hearsay. In practice if two identical subs are wired in series and only one voice coil is heating up (or overheating) then there's something wrong mechanically with the driver from faulty manufacturing and it's NOT due to the way it's wired.

I've built well over 1000 enclosures over the past 15 or so years (prefab boxes were null and void for the companies I've worked for) and I can assure you that I've done this series wiring on numerous occasions without any negative side affects!

Well, you'll have the output of two 8's...so probably the output of a good 10 is fair to say. ;)

Well, it is a trade off bro. The advantage to isobaric is that you will reduce enclosure size dramatically, but you will still have the low end extension you are looking for. And there's really no extra "work" involed.

I'm not trying to "scare" anyone! I'm only providing factual information that was asked by KG! I took the time (my time) to run multiple plots for his drivers. There is no personal gain for me here! I gave him several options so he could make an informed decision on his own :?

guys you have not scared me but i like rap so these subs are no spl killer. like the idea of 4 sounds cool but to only get the output of 2 suck IMO.
if i was to buy a speaker for my car reaaly would be a RSCD or jl wx cheap work and loud
but we will see i might have a deal for my wife to get a jl 15" if thats the case i will use my jl13 tw5 great sub little box and bought it cheap so im happy any way. Stryker love your set up man it would kill me to drive long time at that volume. crap man i don't know how to make it louder or better. you have heard my corolla witht he focal and boston mids sounded great waht i want. so
im going to be the 250 watt and under old school IMO great
thanks guys if i keep the sub i will try the iso style
