More cone area, or more power?
More cone area, or more power?
Can you get the same results by doubling cone area as you would doubling power?? I have two 10's getting about 300 rms each. Was curious how much extra output I would get by running four 10's off the same power (600 rms total). I'm trying to avoid running any more power for subs.Eventually I'm gonna want to power a 4 ch amp also, and I don't wanna do any upgrades to the electrical system. (all power and gounds throughout are 4 ga.) The subs are also cheaper than an amp/wiring upgrades. LMK what u think and thanks for any help.
Re: More cone area, or more power?
i dont think you will gain anything. 150w per sub is pretty low unless they are pretty efficient subs.
Re: More cone area, or more power?
What about adding a 12 along with the 10's if they're all the same sub? Also the 10's are sealed right now so I could go ported which I have before I just couldn't find a tuning frequency that I liked. I listen to 80% old school rap and don't mind a little bit of rock/alternative the rest of the time. I have never tuned above 35(ish) hz, could that be why? maybe try a little higher, say 37-40hz?
Re: More cone area, or more power?
adding different sized subs is not recomended...... rarely done and for good reason.

Re: More cone area, or more power?
Go for the 4-10's in this case. It's quite obvious you don't want to spend anymore cash so do the 4 10's and report your findings back to us. I think in your case thats the option to go for. If you wanna play in the car audio game you better have some cash, cause you know you want more.......
screw car audio, I'd rather go fast....errr, wait a minute.
Re: More cone area, or more power?
Deal fell thru on the 10's. gonna try and put the funds together to go buy some new 12's or somethin, maybe a 15 or two... Thanx for the replies!

Take it with a grain of salt, but as the saying goes.... There's no replacement for displacement.
