2010 Highlander Hybrid

Post by Stereo Junkie »

I am the new owner of a slightly used 2010 highlander hybrid. I "had" to get an suv for a daily driver as I now have 5 month old twins and needed a second vehicle that can tote them, my wife and I around. Some of you might know my previous install of two 13w7 sub in an s-10. For those of you who don't check the thread here http://phoenixphorum.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2717.

Anyway, I have always had some kind of stereo in my daily driver. So I'm wondering what it would take or if it is even possible to install an aftermarket alternator in this kind of highlander? I figure I can keep all the kinetic batteries and stereo separated from the rest of the EV system and stock battery under the hood. I just don't know if this has been done before or not and if it has what kind of dip in mpg I would experience. Has anyone on this board done any kind of serious install in a hybrid vehicle?

Thanks,

i am not sure how the car you have works rev the hybrid side of it but

toyota prius uses a internal power supply to charge the 12v battery from the hv battery it does not have a alternator

there is no room for a retro fit one and the engine only runs when it needs to

but yours might be totaly diferent but where theres a will theres a way!!

Yes there is the highlander is a different beast than the prius. It is a smallish SUV, There is room for an HO alternator and there is an existing one as well. My thoughts were I just needed to use my old isolator that is circa 1990 to separate the two power systems, but I have read some things online that give me pause. I figured I would run it up the flag pole here and see if anyone had attempted it or at least thought of it given that is the way that vehicles are going...
