Keep or sell?
Keep or sell?
I'm at a crossroads, for a few months now I've been debating on whether or not to sell my PG BassCube. I only use it to help blend in the bass output from one song to the next. I can use the sub section on my AC DQS to bump/cut the bass as far as freq resp goes. I have a Clarion Bass processor I could put in its place to adjust the bass output, it just lacks the parametric eq that the BassCube has, but as stated I can use the AC DQS for that as I "set and forget" that part.
I ask this because I'm looking at getting an AC MVC (I've been wanting one for some time) and there's one on ebay right now w/o the volume knob, but I can order those. I would use the money from the BassCube to pay for the MVC.
What to do, what to do?

Re: Keep or sell?
you should keep all you item clarion. you are building the sub box to be 100% to the spec and your amp can only do so much
you will be happy with it

love my cubes....... So you would loose the parametric ability, what are you gaining?

he's a clarion nut so i would say sell the one (bass cube) that is worth more imottocs wrote:love my cubes....... So you would loose the parametric ability, what are you gaining?

Re: Keep or sell?
I really wouldn't even lose that. I can do that with my AC DQS. I would gain an AC MVC, a cleaner signal and possible better SQ. The MVC even has a SSF so I wouldn't lose that either.ttocs wrote:love my cubes....... So you would loose the parametric ability, what are you gaining?

Re: Keep or sell?
Mike (kg1961) has called dibs on possible sale.
He has helped me out, so I will be selling this to him if he wants.
Just an FYI.

Re: Keep or sell?
Bass boost is tacky IMO. Use an LPL instead... as long as you keep it under clipping, you're not going to distort anything that way.
Re: Keep or sell?
just a generic switchable bass boost I would agree that they are just a bassheads dream but to help tune a systems gaps on the sub side is great. I loved my 4 - 8s but they did need a small boost on the bottom end to make them sound the way I liked them too. I am also looking forward to it on my new system with the 9's up front and the 10s in the trunk. I can't help but think that it might need some help somewhere between those two...

Re: Keep or sell?
In top tier installs, gaps should be filled by crossover tuning and static EQing, not a bass boost knob.ttocs wrote:just a generic switchable bass boost I would agree that they are just a bassheads dream but to help tune a systems gaps on the sub side is great. Re: Keep or sell?
not sure I completely agree there. I mean yes in a perfect world yes there is no need for any boosting/subtacting anything but in that case every song we played between the radio/cd player/ mp3 player would sound exacly the same or perfect. ITs an imperfect world that we live in and its really really easy to turn the knob off when not needed but if you don't have one and want a little extra from just your sub it is a little harder with out the cube to isolate that small area. I mean if you running it with a low q I could throw it the bucket with the bass boost comment but with a high-q its completely different and fills a area that no lpl could cover.

Re: Keep or sell?
High Q is exactly what the LPL is good at... the LPL affects the entire range of the subwoofer amplifier, at a consistent level with no artificial signal boosting or interference. In fact the only use I can see for the basscube is in Low-Q situations for ported boomer setups in order to push SPL at the expense of sound quality.ttocs wrote:not sure I completely agree there. now I am confused. A low Q means the filter is a lower quality and will allow more freqs through, such has the LPL. By increasing the Q-factor on the cube you cut the range of freqs that it sends out and has a steeper curve..stipud wrote:High Q is exactly what the LPL is good at... the LPL affects the entire range of the subwoofer amplifier, at a consistent level with no artificial signal boosting or interference. Yes, I agree, it's good in specific high-Q purposes.

Re: Keep or sell?
dqs output versus bass cube, no contest- the cube is way more useable than messing with the dqs- I have a dqs, and 3 bass cubes, that I am running in my current set up- I would definitely keep the cube- purpose built-

Re: Keep or sell?
with the 9s running bandpass and only a very slight blending of the freqs I hope it is easy and gives the impression the bass/subs are up front/closer. How ever I am going to put the cube right after i split the low-end signal out from teh eq215ix so that it can effect both the 9s and 10s. Might chane, see what happends...

Re: Keep or sell?
I'm with Tom on this one. I don't want to boost just one frequency, but the whole bandwidth. My clarion bass processor will let me do that. So will my HU but it's a pain to get to that function. I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell it.
