Who can repair my Ti500.4?

Post by sunshinefc3s »

Hey guys,
First post! I'm a proud owner of two old school Ti amps. Both have been sitting on the shelf for several years while I have been building my project car. Now that the time has come to install the audio, it seems that the left front and left rear channels of the Ti500.4 have crapped out. When the amp is powered up (even w/o music), there is very loud static coming through the speakers.

Does PG still repair these old amps?
Anyone else reputable you guys can recommend?

Thanks,
-a

Do you have 4 RCAs leading to the amp, or just two? If just two, there is a good chance something else is wrong. It is very rare for two channels of a 4-channel amp to fail the same way at the same time. With them both being left channels, it leads me to think something is wrong with the left RCA input signal.

Just a guess though.

I tried only two RCA connects to the front inputs. Then I played with the "F/R/3" setting on the amp.

Reason I thought it was the amp is because I swapped the amp out for an old Orion Cobalt workhorse I have sitting around, and hooked it up identically (just front RCAs) and it sounded fine.

I never thought to try hooking up all 4 RCAs. I will give that a shot.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Thank you both for your replies. I got a chance to play with the amp a bit more today...

I hooked up all 4 RCA channels and with valeks1's suggestion, I started messing with the rotary switches. Seems that the static is coming from the rotary swithces. Rotating both the front and rear HP/LP/BY switches, it sends a good amount of static to the channel 1 speaker when the switch is "in-betwen" the clicks. Just a slight touch with the screwdriver sends the static.

So what do you guys think? Is this repairable or is this normal?
Thanks again!

You can try and clean it, but eventually it will come back in my experience.

Replace it with a new switch is the only sure way to fix it.

In that case I suggest Valeks1 services.
