Tantrum 300.2 lost its punch, what to do

I've got a Tantrum 300.2 that I've been running for about 7-8 years. I bought it new, installed myself and ran it with a Tantrum 12" in a sealed box. This setup rocked my a$$ until the surround on the sub split about a year ago. I managed to hunt down another 12" Tantrum here on the phorum, thank god, but about two weeks ago I hopped in the car and cranked up the radio only to find that my bass had lost all its "punch". My setup was tuned for loud, tight bass but now all I seem to get is weak, loose output.

Visual inspection of all wires and components shows no obvious issues. Sub looks fine, driver has good travel when moved gently by hand, with no grit or grab. Amp looks fine, isn't overheated, power and ground are still solid and test clean. I've gone through my HU setup to make sure I didn't reverse the polarity, screw up the time correction or crossover. Nothing so far points to what went wrong.

So I'm left wondering if I finally need to crack the case on the amp and start looking at the caps, transistors, etc.

Can those far more knowledgeable than me shed some light on what I might be dealing with? I'm sharp with an iron but don't know much about amp circuit design so I wouldn't know where to look outside of an obviously popped cap, split transistor or burnt resistor.

Please help! These Tantrum amps are hard to come by these days!!!

try moving the gain and xover pots up and down some time they get dirty

Spun the pots and xover selector, as well as the LPL knob I have up front and no change except louder "farts" coming from the sub. If I turn the gain down below half, I can't hear any increases in output when adjusting the LPL knob. Sounds more and more like the amp has kicked it.

And I should have qualified "hard to find" = "hard to find for a price I can afford"

they sell for around 100 or less have you checked the sub and wiring? do you have another sub to try check the rca ect
