old school JBL
old school JBL
I just thought I would share some pics of some old school JBL GTi 6's. I got these back in like 1995. If I get a chance and you guys would want to see them I will dig the 4's out and get some shots of them? Wish I would have got two sets of these but back then these where like $350.

Re: old school JBL
we had a hell of time getting those into most cars with that magnet size.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
Re: old school JBL
That is one hell of a pole vent for a 6" driver
Re: old school JBL
Those are what I'm putting in my car so I hope they won't be to much trouble. I going to try an put them behind stock door panels. I was alway impressed at the power rating of 300 rms.

Re: old school JBL
one shop I was at had jbl and it wasn't bad but we also had image dynamics, diamond audio, it was a tough crowd for sure so we didn't see them as much as the others. JBL was just never a name that brought people in the door strangly with as good as it was.

Re: old school JBL
One of the problems was that it was so expensive. In 95 I bought the 1 inch tweeters, 4 inch mids and 6 inch mid bass and they were in the high $800 range. One of the shops where I live sold it And at the time they had some of the best sounding mids and tweeters. I got one of the tem inch subs and it is a little beast also.
Hopefully in the next several months I will start putting some of the stuff together. Two of my amps need a little work so after that is taken care of some of the install will begin.

Re: old school JBL
my install was delayed with the decision to do the air-ride although the last two days I have been working on all the dist blocks which is for the stereo. Need to paint some plexi tonight and might be able to finish that side up tomorrow night.

Oh how I wish I had sweet babies like that too!
I do have a 1200GTI sub in my ride however, and it is the defining part of my system. It's so efficient in a 1 3/4 cft vented box that it gets loud enough for me with only 100W or so.
It's also so accurate and transparent that it won't let me bridge the sub amp. I've tried it many times. It gets louder, admitted, but the loss of control and resolution is just too obvious to ignore.
My sub amp is JBL P180.2. I have been wondering will a PG MS275 sound as good bridged as it does unbridged. If it does I will be very impressed. The JBL GTI sub is really a 3ohm load.
I think JBL GTI goodies never became popular with the crowd, because they don't sound good or bad. They sound just like the music youre playing and in many cases thats a bad thing. Most of the recorded music in the world is recorded badly and the GTI's show no mercy to bad recordings. That's pro sound for you!
