Try the new Alpine Type-R shallow sub. Heard two of the 10" subs in a Miata last week and are pretty stout. Was runnin' them off of an Alpine PDX-M6 and they were lovin' it.

Auto temp on 114th has some 8" hertz shallows that are very nice.
Re: shallow subs what have you used
anyone have more info on cheaper speakers
they don't have to be 'shallow' just under 5.5 inches high

Try this, Sundown Audio SD subs, they come in a 10 or 12 and have heard them ...they're monsters for sound being their version of a shallow mount sub. The 10's have a MD of 4.75" and the 12's have a MD of 5.25"

Re: shallow subs what have you used
i said hell with it and am picking up old school orion xtrpro 12 from 1999 nib
i will put it in a shallow truck box so i can pull it out if needed
i see the price of cheap shallows but they do less than cheap subs
so i will take up a little space for some nice bass

That would be my first choice if I was looking for a shallow mount..dvnt88 wrote:Try this, Sundown Audio SD subs, they come in a 10 or 12 and have heard them ...they're monsters for sound being their version of a shallow mount sub. The 10's have a MD of 4.75" and the 12's have a MD of 5.25"

i wish i trade mine but the guy is going to use it so i can't get it back..lol
i did get my suv installed with all clarion grear(two amps new mid/tweeter in the door, sound matting) im using a 10" ssw1001 the sub is odd im not sure if it the deck or what
it in a bass works sealed box , 55 cub than remove the sub size it what clarion needs it hit crazy around 35-50hz but sucks up to 80? so i think i might try a rsdc 12 or maybe a jl 12w6v2 or i will see what i can find around town in a sealed box again to keep the space down. the wife didn't say anything other than are you going to fasten the sub box down so game on

Mike
If you can get me the TS parameters, I can plot it for you real quick. I did a quick search for that sub but came up empty handed.

Well it looks like Clarion already did the work for us!
From the looks of it, the enclosure that you have right now should perform well. What is the crossover point for the sub?

Oh ok gothca. I didn't realize that you were still using the "oem" radio. That might be the issue. It would be hard to tell unless you could analyze the decks outputs. But yes, you're right that that might be the problem. Are you considering replacing it?
I would try raising the xover point a little higher just for kicks (like 100hz). It can't hurt just to try.
Nothing "crappy" about rap (well at least not the old school stuff)
Actually, that sub you have there looks like it would work quite well in a vented enclosure, and only at 1cu ft ! That's not all that large imo. A 12" sub in a sealed enclosure would typically be that size anyway. It might be worth running that bad boy vented!! If you needed a box builder, I would be willing to do the work for you... although shipping might be a small fortune

i can get a vented box made here in town just i think the 12 will give me a little more in the lows than even the 10 could

Re: shallow subs what have you used
Maybe man. All depends on the sub/box combination and how much space you want to give up. That 10 looks like it'll dig deep in a vented enclosure! Your call of coarse!
