What's your take?

Post by 05LGT »

System Lay out:

HU/Processor: OEM HU + Mini DSP 2 x 4

Front Stage: Hybrid Clarus C6 + Vifa Tweeters

Substage: 15" IB. Most likely the Pyle blue label. Yes, laugh, but this is a GREAT woofer used in the right application.

Amplifiers:

^As you can see, amplifiers is blank. I have a pair of PG M44's, but they are bigger than expected in physical size. I am shooting for a "small footprint" system. The PG M25's are tiny. Sweet! I was thinking about running 3 of them. 1 for my mids, 1 for tweets, & bridge 1 for my single 15."

I'm worried that the PG M25 won't throw enough power for my HAT mids. Is the PG M44 really that much more powerful?

Also, I'm not too worried about substage power. When running IB, it's a general rule of thumb you only need half the wattage to reach the woofers x max. I think a few guys on Diyma were pushing 90rms to the Pyle 15"s lol.

check out the zx450 75w x4 and a pretty small footprint and tons of headroom. i have never used HAT speakers but the m25s pack a punch for there size.

I'll take a decent, efficient driver with the knowledge of how to install and tune properly over huge power high dollar stuff almost every time, but I'm different (and poor).

I think for a setup like this, it would be difficult to go wrong with anything of the era mentioned in this thread. The quality, loosely/non regulated PS amps from the mid/late 90s are my favorites, audiophile logic be damned...I almost think their power ratings are arbitrary for the average install outside of enclosure design which I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying. I'm running my front and rear stage right now off a late 90s amp that's rated 20x4 temporarily crossed at 80hz 12db per. My brother came by Saturday and had a listen and immediately asked me to start putting together a system for his truck, and that was without the sub being in yet, no preamp stage yet (straight from ipod output, blech) and levels set pretty conservatively.

I'm just wondering if the 1 IB sub may cause you to want to cross the C6s a bit lower than normal just from a volume standpoint. Even so, maybe one M44 bridged stereo for the C6's, and then 1 M25 for the Vifas and 1 for the sub? I'm not familiar with the M amps but that should be more than enough power, probably overkill looking at the Clarus spec sheet. I really like the ZX and ZXti amps, but its more of a convenience thing because of the adjustable xover and steeper slope than most of the comparable amps right before/around that time period. Plus the preamp out integrated to the xover network makes bandpassing a little easier for cheapskates like me sometimes. I would try the 3 M25 setup first though, you may find it does the job. My logic is not exactly conventional "car audio" and most people here know way more M amp specifics so take it for what its worth.

That mini DSP looks awesome by the way. I've got a set of tower speakers I plan on converting to bi amp with active xover, and for what I'd spend on an average analog filter unit I think this may be worth the extra few $$.
