Help with semi functioning amp

Post by Newbie102 »

So last night I over heated my Phoenix Digital amp by bridging it with 2 6" subs which made the amp to overheat, shut down, and have the red indicator light come on; before I could catch what was going on. So I decided to let it cool over night and unbridged it.

Now when I turn it on it plays music for about a minute or two before shutting down and having the red indicator light coming on. During this time the subs start clipping at a normal listening volume.

Since then I bought a USED Phoenix Gold amp. When I plugged it all in it worked well for about two minutes before shutting off and having the red indicator light start blinking at me.

Since I've only had an amp for about two months so I don't know what the problem could be. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. :)

maybe you fried the subs.....the only can handle 60 watts rms.....i would try it out with another sub/speakers.....try measuring if it still is 4 ohms ....if you fried the voice coils the impedance maybe much lower and that could be the reason why the amps is going in protection mode

Alright I'll hook up some of my old door speakers I took out last year and see if there is a difference.

first lets clarify, that is not a PHOENIX gold amp nor even a phoenix digital like you said. that is phonics as in "Hooked on phonix worked for me" - but it didn't work.

I am sorry to say to you that it looks to be a cheap knock-off amp. It says its 2 ohm stereo stable but not mono.

The octane should do it. Have you put a meter on the subs to see what the ohms reading is on them?
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
