Help with Ti600.4

Post by Warspite »

I bought a NIB Ti600.4 from my local shop on Saturday. Installed it yesterday afternoon. I'm getting no sound output at all. The tri-leds flicker, and the protect mode light DOES NOT come on.
The head unit is a JVC dvd player. Amp's front channels are running a pair of Focal 165 2k's and the rear channels are bridged to a single JL 12W3.
All of these connections were working correctly with a tantrum the new amp replaced.
Any ideas?

To start with, just connect the power, ground, and remote lines to the amp and see if it will come on without the tri-LEDs flickering.

don't assume the wiring is correct just because it worked with a different amp. Triple check(I am sure you already double checked) your connections and be sure there is no wire showing that could ground out.

Ok, I disconnected all the wires except for ground, remote and battery. The trileds do not light up at all. I discovered that if I plug in one of the rca cables, the trileds start flickering. ?

Were me at that point I would pull the HU, plug a new set of rcas into the preouts, and just run them naked back to the amp to test it, and pray that fixes it. If the lights still come on then the problem is either the amp or the preouts. Since you're reasonably sure the HU is fine, since it worked before swapping amps, then that leaves you with amp problems.

Check your ground cable.

It sounds like the amp is sourcing its ground through the RCA shield (very bad), likely due to a missing ground connection. It is flickering as it is trying to power on, but then can't get enough current, so it shuts off (this is my guess).

With only power, ground, and remote connected, the amp should turn on and the LEDs should light up when the remote line is energized. If this is not the case, there is something wrong with one of those three connections.

Good news! It lives! The remote turn on connection at the back of the HU was bad.

Did I mention this amp is a beast?
Thanks for everyone's help!

I would 2nd the recomendation to check the ground as I have seen rca's that caught fire from similar problems and its also very bad on your deck.

Only ever saw it once and it was on some cheap gear with a crappy install but there was clearly a lack line in the carpet from the amp to the deck. Rca's are not made to handle much current so it doesn't take a whole lot to get them hot but it can happen.
