Looking for a new subs. Want something that gets with it but is not just boom boom. Needs to sounds good and be accurate. Must handle fast trasients while still remaining detailed and smooth.
Your thoughts, anyone?

How much emphasis are you putting on sound quality? The DD subs get really, really, loud, but generally when you have a sub with a lot of excursion, you generally lose some SQ. You also generally never hear anyone that has DD subs say they're accurate because they are too busy talking about how loud they are, so part of it might be the tastes of the people that own them. They probably sound pretty good compared to other SPL subs, but if I was betting, I would say that the Phoenix Gold Elite 12D would sound better than a DD3500 12" sub, but the DD would probably be louder simply because of the greater suspension travel. However, the PG sub is more efficient, so it'd probably be real close.

Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

I have only heard DD in an SPL environment so that is why I ask this question. That being said, I beleive that virtually any sub can sound good given the right enclosure. However, can the motor and suspension be fast enough to really articulate individual impacts. Also, can the response be smooth or does the sub have a natural peakiness to it. These are the questions that really interest me. Drock has had alot of good input via PM as well. Thanks for the comments and keep them coming.

DD can build a SQ sub with the best of them. They will build whatever you need. How about a Neo SqL sub with around 28mm 1 way Xmas?
The thing with DD, is from the beginning they set out to dominate the spl scene with over-built woofers with really good motors high in BL flux,Ie: motor strength. And it takes alot of Xmas to get the high spl numbers, ie: cone travel measured in MM 1 way, so double that with rear cone movement.
I know they are in the top 5 sub builders around and 1st in the spl scene.
I wouldnt hesitate to buy a SQ sub from DD, just tell them Exactly what you want out of it, and they will build to order.
