Sound/Vibration Deadening For Glass

After all of the sound deadening I have done to my truck, I have one annoying vibration, the back window. With all the windows up and the system running wide open, outside it doesn't sound much louder than a factory radio. The truck is damn near sound proof. But, the back glass has this annoying vibration, which isn't too loud at all outside, and I wouldn't worry about it, but I can hear it inside, and that annoys me. I did a search for films that might help and I ran across this security film for automobiles. Not sure if it will do much for my vibration problem, but damn it looks useful for people in our hobby.

sound damping (deadening) requires a viscoelastic and/or elastomeric product, constrained-layer damping is most effective. a window film won't do that. laminated glass does have some inherent damping in it - and is what we use for "sound proof" windows (or windows with higher transmission loss).

it is likely the plastic trim around the window making noise. start tapping on parts to find what is making noise, then you can put some rope caulk or non-hardening modeling clay at the trim seams.

the only thing I could think of is that some of the companies made a damping product that had a flat black background. Maybe if you did a thing "frame" of daming a in or two wide around the edge. Do it clean enough and it should not stand out too bad and may or may not work

Common misconception about deadening is that it prevents vibration. Damping just shortens vibration duration (resonance). But it cannot prevent the vibration from starting. I like the idea of a deadener frame - it would likely improve transmission loss (road noise)

Yeah, the vibration itself is fine, and I expect that would always be there. I'm just looking for a way to not hear it. I am very sure that the problem is the glass. I can hear it inside and outside the vehicle, and it isn't flex. Since posting this I am thinking about looking into seeing if someone makes a thicker rear glass for my truck. Everything I have been reading about residential window sound proofing basically says thicker glass is the only way. If only 1/8" thicker, it should add enough weight to silence it at least a little.

I would try the frame idea but leave it long enough that it covers from the glass too the metal around it.
