CTS-V amps finally decided!

Post by Pillow »

Well I finally committed to a set of amps for the '05 CTS-V... I have been dragging ass on this for about a year but nothing felt right. I have purchased and sold three diff sets of amps before coming full circle back to the Xenons.

PPI Phantoms 900.4 and 600.2... Purchased and sold. Great little amps, but had no flare.

ZX with dual 350s... Just did not look right either.

I thought I settled on the MS275 paired with an Audio Tecknix D400.1... But the AT just looks so cheap compared to the MS! plus the colors did not fit the V.

Now back to where I should have been a year ago! Xenon!!! I used a X200.4 in my previous Suburban where I had loads of room. Loved it! My god could that thing put out clean power!!! The design is right on with the black and brushed AL already in the car, and I like the rubber boots to cover the wiring. Especially since the amps will be seen I want a clean install.

So the system will be:

AudioControl LOC off the stock Bose line outputs.
Xenon X100.2 feeding the front stage.
Xenon X600.1 feeding a single IB deck mount custom TC Sounds Neo motor 3HP 10" SQ monster. 28mm x-max one way (muuuuhaahahahah)
JBL MS62 component set in the front. Still will use the JBL passive crossovers.
Peerless center channel will remain off the Bose amp... Really IDK what to do with it so we'll keep it simple :)

I purchased the X600.1 from PhoenixColt and the X100.2 BNIB off gar-bay. So the amps will be here in about a week.

The sub I still need to order up for a recone... But I may place a eD ov10 in its place just to try out. PhoenixCOlts RSDC102 in the classifieds was very tempting though!!!

Anyway more to come!

FWIW

As I was ranting to the wife about all this...

Wife: Don't you already have a bunch of amps downstairs?
Me: Yes.
Wife: Why don't you install those?
Me: No, they just don't match up.
Wife: Then sell some of your amps and get what you want.
Me: No. Maybe a few, but not the special ones. (meaning the PG stash)

There was more to the conversation, but she really could care less. And I am okay with that. :)

With my wife it is the damn purses! I don't even ask anymore...

Dude If I could fit the x200.4 and x1200 I would have been all over it! The X200.4 was my fav installed amp ever! Just brutal power that kept coming for days!

fuck if she is into the purses from what I have seen there should be no issue coming home with an elite tucked under your arm the same way she does her coach bags. I was f'n amazed when some of the girls at work started telling me what different bags cost. After that conversation I think if I was really into a girl that was a purse collector it would be a deal breaker - I can't afford her. Well ok I could but that would be while sacrificying my vises to buy hers...
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

I agree! At this point, I have my toys and she has hers. She pays for her crap so it goes unnoticed. Of course when I buy my car "stuff" (aka my crap) she bugs me about it. So it is always a mild loss on my end in the complaining category. LOL

X100.2 and X600.1 are here!

I plugging them in last night and they both work just fine.

Interestingly enough the X600.1 is marked USA on the bottom and the X100.2 Korea... Maybe some Xenons were made in USA???

I don't get it, lol. It could be worse. Instead of collecting cool car audio gear, we could be spending all our cash on a lot more useless things. Like smoking, drinking, new cars every couple years, but never ever own them. Some prefer drugs & hookers, lol.

If I added up all the little shit that comes into our house every month that never get mentioned, I bet it's at least twice what I spend in audio gear.

For example,
Fancy soaps, candles, shoes, I think she has a scarf for everyday of the year. Her hobby is making soap. Do you have any idea how much that shit is to make? And then she just gives it away as gifts.
Wonder how she'd feel if I just started handing out amps. ( it will never happen)
