Okay...I have a pair of Xenon X10D2's running off my Xenon X600.1 amp...been running without fail over the last 6+ years. Recently I had built a new test box for them and when I pulled them out of their current box, I noticed the aluminum plates on the magnet boots were warped and discolored (high heat I'm assuming). The subs have been in a box that allows .75 cu. ft. for each sub and each chamber is stuffed with polyfill.
My question is...should this be something that I need to be concerned about?
I'm hoping not as I truly love these subs and would hate to replace them. I haven't noticed any drop in performance.

Re: Magnet boots warped and discolored
I wouldn't worry too much about it if performance isn't suffering.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.
Re: Magnet boots warped and discolored
that’s a sign of too much poly fill in the box. poly fill should be in a mat form 1/2 to 3/4 thick (used in blankets) and attached with adhesive glue to the inside walls of the box. most people think that the poll fill used in pillows can be used, i stay away from it because it doesn’t let the speaker breath. the voice coil is cooled by vents thru the magnet and if you have the box filled with poly fill it suffocates the speaker. Until eventually the voice coil seizes. i recommend taking some of that poly fill out and let those speakers breathe.

WOW...I didn't realize that. Thanks for the good word. I'm glad that I did remove the polyfill when I re-loaded my subs too. So now I just need to hope that they aren't going to seize any time soon. Again, thank you for the insight you have provided...moving forward, no more loose polyfill!!!
Re: Magnet boots warped and discolored
When you send power to a speaker, that power turns 99% into heat. A sub can disspiate some heat through the cone, but most of it through the backside. Thats where all the cooling vents are. If the back is snugly wrapped in polyfill, then all that heat just builds up in the subs motor and basket. Play that sub hard and long and it will heat up plenty.
Vented boxes are better at cooling a sub down. Flipping the sub around so the motor is on the outside is an option too if you have room to spare.

In my previous car, I did have a single Xenon sub and I had it mouned inverted with the magnet out. In my current car, having a dual sub set-up...not enough room for the inverted mount option. I think by pulling the polyfill out of the box, I should be good to go now. If anything should happen, it will be an excuse to buy new subs. LOL Not that I would be looking forward to that. Thanks for the input.Mr. Wild wrote:When you send power to a speaker, that power turns 99% into heat. A sub can disspiate some heat through the cone, but most of it through the backside. LMAO...best post yet Tiffany....the colors went weird, huh?Tiffany Lamy wrote:Tried the two magnets taped to the end of a drill, due to its high speed its color is damaged..all the colors went weird, but when i pulled the magnets away... the spot was gone...I was very surprised and pleased..Its amazing for me specially aluminium work...
