Help installing EQ on 3 way system.

I brought my car in today to get my system hooked up. The installer later called me to tell me that I would lose my ability to fade front and rear if he installs the EQ.

Let me know if he's correct.

This is my equipment:

Pioneer 880PRS (3 channel)
PPI EQ31 (two channel)
PG ZX450 (front component amp running bridged)
Eclipse 3242 4 channel (running rear components in 2 channels bridged)
MTX 500D (bass amp)
ID chameleons (front)
Canton components (rear)
IDMAX (sub)


I used to have only the PG amp and the MTX prior to this, and I was able to fade all channels. Does adding an extra amp cause problems.

I told him, if this is really the case, then install the EQ on the front stage only.


What do guys think?

It is a bit complicated, since you have rear fill.

1. You can ditch the rear fill, run the EQ to your front comps, then bypass EQ directly to sub amp from HU.

2. Buy another EQ for the rear speakers. Also bypassing for sub amp.

3. Just use EQ for the front comps, and run single RCA's to rear and sub. Like you said here: "I told him, if this is really the case, then install the EQ on the front stage only."

Yeah, I still like option 3 the best. I can't live without my rear fill.

I had to do such. Like you, I like the rear stage too. I only process the front stage and subs while the raw signal runs to the rear stage. And the amplifiers have some minor adjustments to compensate for it's environment.

As you directed the installer, this is the best compromise without adding hardware. You'll like the results.

So what you're saying is that 16 bands of EQ per left/right (32 total) isn't enough from the Pioneer HU? The EQ built in the HU should be enough for the rear. I'd just do the PPI EQ on the fronts. Tune the HUs EQ for the rears so much to the point that it DOESN'T mess w/the fronts sound. You can always use the PPI to counter balance the differance to the front. It's not the prefered wa, but as long as you don't cut, example> 250 Hz to -6 dB for the rear but have to add +9 dB for the fronts at 250 Hz you should be OK.

Well I just finished tuning my car, and I have to say that it sounds amazing. I hardly had to use any EQ on the front Chameleons. They blend well with the Cantons in the rear.
